Hi everyone, I am wanting to try a new design similar to the sant monica 100 just not as high tech. Maybe an acrylic box with two lights mounted on each side. :D The lighting is either going to be 2- 48 watt t5 ho lights or two 96 watt ho lights. This will be going on my 135 gallon saltwater tank. The screen dimensions are 13 x 10 and the flow will be coming straight from the overflow with a ball valve for adjusting the flow. If i use the two 48 watt lights one one each side of the screen, this will be only 96 watts of power. The two 96 watt lights will equal 192 watts. On this size of screen, will the higher wattage be to much light? There is a light that is 72 watts but the 18 watt bulbs are too hard to find, otherwise this would have been perfect for my set up. Also, are 3000k bulbs ok to use? Anyones input would be greatly appreciated. :D

How would you fit a 24 inch bulb on a 13 inch screen?

Sorry about that, I guess i should given a little more clarification. The acrylic box would be around 25 inches long but the scrubber would only take up 13 inches length wise. Should I just make the scrubber run the full length of the acrylic box, the full 24 inches? I guess the screen could possibly be 20 inches in length and 7 inches high, so that I don't waste light. Would the 192 watts still be too much for this size screen?
Thanks

20 inches is good, because the last 2 inches of T5 bulbs are wasted.
You should try to put T5 bulbs 2 inches apart, from center to center. So your 7 inch high screen could have 3 or 4 bulbs on each side, depending on the type of reflectors you can find, and how much wattagae you want. 192 watts is not too much, because T5's spread the light evenly across the screen. However 144 watts (3 bulbs per side) will probably work fine.
