I just set up my ATS, and today would be the sixth day. I have been running the lights for 24 hrs. My rocks in my sump were turning brown. My question would be, should I removed the rocks and just run the ATS only, cause I am still running my protein skimmmer and I am about to remove my filter sock on the next water change. But check out the pictures and let me know what you think? By the way, my tank was just cycled 2 weeks ago prior to running ATS. Thanks guys.[attachment=0:3ppjpwwi]3_16_2001c.JPG[/attachment:3ppjpwwi]

My only input would be that your lights need to be on for only 18 hours per day to allow a rest period for the algae. Looks a neat set up though :)

Nice acrylic build; will work very good. The reflector is not very wide, but the screen is small so the reflector might indeed cover all of it.

Change to 18 hours lights on.

The rocks have nothing to do with the scrubber. Leave them in.

Your tank is new; you can remove the skimmer now.

When you start feeding, the screen will start growing more.

I was reading some of the info before and I thought to leave the lights on for 24hrs for 7 days and after that 18 hrs for the new set up.
I could only fit this size of reflector in my sump but since it covers the whole screen, it should be okay, right?
I am using 2x 26w cfl daylight 5600k, is this too much or should I use warm or cool?
Now, the brown stuff on my screen, should I go ahead and clean it or leave it for another week to produce more algae?
The acrylic, I got it at SDPlastics and they cut it for me and just bought a Weld-on #3 acrylic glue. I got the idea just by looking at some of the design in the DIY section.
I will update more today on the progress.
Thanks guys.

PS
I mentioned before that I was using a filter socks on my drain, should I also remove it as well as the protein skimmer?
I am using 300gph powerhead, my screen size is 8x12. is that too much flow?

If it will be a reef, you won't want the sock on there. Everything else looks good.

Wait a few more days to clean.

As of today my readings are:

ammo: 0ppm
NO3: 0ppm
PO3: .5ppm
Ca: 500ppm
Kh: 8dKh = 143ppmKh
ph: 8.0
SG: 1.025
sal: 34
temp: 75-78

My ph and Kh were a little low. I am thinking about adding Part B of B-ionic to raise up my Alk and Ph. What do you guys think?
My last reading of my PO3 was 1ppm. it went down half of reading since I added my ATS...yipeee...
