I am getting ready to build a santa monica style scrubber. My two 96 watt t5 ho lights are on their way. My questions are what size screen do I need for my 135 gallon tank with a 20 gallon sump? this is a horizontal scrubber. What is the amount of flow I am trying to achieve for this size of a tank? Is 96 watts per side enough lighting? I want 1 watt per gallon because I will eventually be dealing with a high bio-load.
Thanks everyone 8-)

The size of the screens should match your lights. 96 watts on each side is plenty.

So if my lights are 24 " and my tank is 135 gallons, then 22x7 ( the size of the screen) would work for the 1 square inch rule?
Thanks :D

If you are getting 2 x 4 lamp 24" T5HO, one for each side, that's enough to run a 200g system, or a super-heavily loaded 135. You don't need to include the sump volume, just the DT size (the tank size, not accounting for displacement of water from LR, decor, etc) as your baseline for sizing your screen. In your case, you sized the screen according to the light fixtures. Odyssea 4x24W by chance? Gonna work well.

Thanks santa monica and floydrturbo for the info. much appreciated. Oh yeah, the lighting is two 96 watt Oddeseay lights. They are on schedule for a delivery sometime tomorrow. I live in Las vegas so it only took two days to make it here from south san francisco,ca.
