So should I do dual ATS or a large single? And what about a chiller? Where do you put that in the equation?

I'd at least do multiple screens. Cleaning a single screen that big would be a pain.

It all depends on how much room you have. To do it all in one, you would have to make it 48" long or 2x as high as a standard 100. Flow is a factor also, and usually the limiting one. A 48" wide lamp would do good for a 44" scrubber, but you need 1540 GPH to pull that off. For 2x 100s and 24" lamps you have 2x 20" screens so still 700 x2 = 1400 GPH. A single double-high would be 700 GPH

Ok. So if I've got a mag18, couldn't I just use the 2 overflows?

You can't go by the pump specs and head calcs, unless you take into account a big contingency factor. So a Mag 18 at zero head is 1800 GPH. Running it in a sump to feed 2 returns, I'm guessing you have a 6 foot tank, so that's at least 4' vertical and 6' horizontal, and one tee, you're looking at a head loss that brings that down to below 1200 (you're at 1400 with the 4' vertical alone), especially if you figure that bulkheads are not made according to Danner recommendations for using a 1.5" inner diameter return line all the way to the tank. You probably have 3/4" bulkheads, so figure another loss and you're down to probably 1000 ish.
I was running a 12.5 on a straight vertical 4' with 3/4" ID tubing and a 3/4" bulkhead and got 433 GPH. I swapped out all the tubing I could for 1.25" ID (left bulkhead at 3/4") and got the flow up to 780 GPH. So just beware that you have to design for actual flow conditions.

darn. Shut down by the real spec sheet. Ah well.

It's not that bad actually, you would just want to build a box that would have 4 x 24" 24W T5HOs on each side, versus 2 x 54W 48" on each side. I am planning to build one exactly like that very soon actually, using Sunlight Supply Sunblaze strip lights and reflectors. I'll be starting a thread for that build, I'll make sure I post a link to it for you.
