Hi all.

I've got CFL hanging into the bucket. The bucket is white, but a lot of light is still able to escape. I have a mylar ballon which I could just line the inside of the bucket with. Some of the mylar may be below the water line, or at a minimum water could splash it. Will that be a problem for the fish or corals?

I expect I might need to replace the mylar on occassion, but this would be a nice solution at least temporarily.

It's metallised isn't it.

I don't think I'd want some unknown metal in the water.

Might be alright, but I wouldn't chance it.

I used mylar as a reflector, the saltwater will dissolve it. The small amount of salt spray that hit it, made it fall apart in 2 months. It did work extremely well as a reflector though...

You could DIY a polished aluminum reflector, if you have the time and elbow grease

If you have access to one of those laminating machines you could laminate a piece of mylar or some aluminium foil.
