Hello!

Here is my HQI diy project i did about a year ago. Sorry for the english, but the texst is copied from google translator.

Hi!

Has been a while now, but have now finished my little HQI project. The purpose of the project was to see how easy and inexpensive it was ann and obtain a usable light on the Nano. The total cost amount for this project ended up at about 500 NOK incl HQI bulb.

So here is some documentation from my HQI Project:

Attention! Attention! Recommends that no one else and try this myself as there is great danger of fire and personal injury by such projects. This is just how I've done, no calls to and do the same.

Project 70W HQI start, here is the picture of the parts that are bought and partially assembled.
1. Typical 500W halogen work light that most builders' merchants business dealer.
2. Electronic Ballast 70W purchased in the world outside.
3. Stainless steel pipe painted black, mounted on the plate / foot for suspension of the luminaire.
4. Feet of plywood to be placed behind the aquarium on the floor.

Here are screwed together and stand on his way back into the tub for installation, construction components are designed so that the rack will stand by itself behind the aquarium, no screws or fixing required. Old faucet is still on the vessel:

Here is the fixture mounted on the stand finished and placed behind the tank, fittings and stand can be easily lifted out if necessary. PS! For the time being, this is a little makeshift, cable fittings that appear in the image to be threaded through the tube fixture hanging in so it will not be visible:

Here is a closeup of the new light, the corals are slightly recessed from the shock of the new light fixture is just lit for the first time. Maybe I should raise the fixture a few centimeters, a little dark on the sides, but possible this is just fine with a little variation in light intensity in the tank:

A 70W or 150W HQI fixture can therefore easily be combined with electronic ballast for about 500 NOK.

About heat so I have not made any kind of ventilation / cooling of the armature, the hottest point of the fixture (on top) are measured at 70 degrees. Since this luminaire is designed for a 500W halogen then I assume that it will not have any problems and deal with the heat from a 70W metal halide lamps.

The lighting is 100% completely silent.

Do not know if I'll be more satisfied with the HQI project than with the old T5 lighting of mine, but this project was fun to complete. First impression of the lighting was that the tub was very alive with glitter effect.
