How long has it been running?

You reflectors are non-reflectors. You are losing all your light to the sides. The screen is getting maybe 5 watts per side. Get some real deep-bowl reflectors, where you can't see the bulb from the sides.

Then, change to a 1-layer screen.

to quote SM on another thread

No advantage to double-layer screen for most people. It requires very high flow, very bright light, and very frequent cleaning (including between the screens) to make it work its best. Only then can it out-perform a single layer in the same screen size.

And you may want to read the basics thread I started

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1432 (http://www.algaescrubber.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1432)

Reflectors are covered as SM stated.

There are three elements that you wanted to have when using ATS for filtration:

1) Even flow and strong flow across the whole screen. This is more of a challenge at first, but as you tweak your ATS, you'll get it.

2) Proper light spec and reflectors.

3) Time and patience!!!! Took 2 months for me to see a full green screen and corals happy! :)

I went through the same process. I seriously need to make a thread and post all my process pictures. It has been three months since I run an ATS as my only filtration and it is working out so well for me.

Yes the time is important. Stronger lighting will get you there quicker (if you have the flow for it), but once you are there you may not need all that power. In that case you would shorten the hours.

I thought that a dual layer was the best since there always would be some algea left to grow?

But i an going to follow hour advise and change it to a single layer - while adding some Bowl Like reflectors.

The ATS for now has beek running for 3 months

Thanks for the input :)

But as of now - is the scrubber removing antrhing from the system?

Very little. You need to be removing handfuls of algae.
