Lighting questions

Ok guys decided on my scrubber it will be 12 x 12 inch screen the lighting will be 2 inches from either side and pump is a tunze 2200 lph pump
I have decided to go with 2 x 45 watt led lights with 80 650 reds and 31 blues the unit is 12 x 12 so exact same size as screen. So 90 watts led power all in I hope this will be ok?
As a back up I will have cfl on hand but would like advice on how many cfl I should have at each side of the screen ? And thoughts on the led units I have ordered ? Thanks

My screen is 22.5 inches by 8 or 9 (depending on the water level), one sided, and I have five x 20w CFL sticks , spaced along the length. I think I've overdone it a bit though.

My last scrubber was similar size (maybe 15 x 15) and dimensions to yours, but again one sided, and I only had one CFL bulb on that (but it was a 45w floodlight one with a decent reflector). It worked but was a little on the weak side.


I like the idea of LEDs but am not really willing to cough up for em yet. I expect that prices will fall soon.

This is the one I went for tbh not a great deal of money my scrubber will be maybe 2 weeks before built but I have ordered one led to start with I can use it on my mud filter with cheato and caulerpa to see if it affects growth compared to the cfl I have there ATM I can separate the light sources see which one is better ;)

Fair enough. Take some pictures and post em up. I'd be interested to see that.
