View Full Version : huge mistake with silicon, my ats can handle
Hello I wonder if the algae removes waste chemicals that can cause the silicon
by mistake Introduced a crude structure and rushed to pH under 6, fortunately I have no living being in the
aquarium, I was just about to start cycling
my question is if I have to throw water or algae can manage my
mistake

That is a new one to me, never heard of silicone causing that issue. Short answer, if nothing is living in the tank the most I would do is put in some Alkalinity supplement of some type. Kalkwasser, baking soda, etc. You certainly don't want a pH of 6 for long in a SW tank because it can break down calcium (ie. sand/rocks) and turn them to mush if the problem is not addressed.

the silicone had mold inhibitors in it? that might kill bacteria and some algae. I would change all of the water and start fresh.

Don't use it at all it will kill all your corals and fish the mould inhibitors in silicone are lethal to aquatic life ALWAYS use sicone designed for tank use
