my scrubbers pump stopped working for 7 days due to a bad powerstrip. all week I could smell something ocean like but could not find the source until today when I went to clean my screen and found it bone dry:( I put it back online and am now running carbon in a bag. How long will my scrubber take to get back to normal and remove everything that the dead algae let back into the water colum?

1 week + 1 week of normal use.

woke up this morning to a cloudy tank and dead sps and dying lps:( soft are fine. CA&ALK fine temp. fine

You did completely clean the screen back to new before putting it back right...

I just did a normal cleaning with hack saw blade.

You would want to clean it down to a new screen, because everything is dead.

yea,, I was not sure if some algae"spores" would make it.....That's why I did not clean it to "new"....I did a huge water change and the water is clearing. It sucks because I went soooo long without having to do a water change and bragging about it.. Santa ,,what did the dead algae release to cause so much harm??

Nutrients. It's the same as dumping that much food in at one time.

wonder what chemical made ALL the corals slime up and cause the sps to die so quickly,,,,,ammonia? This all happened in 8 hours after the scrubber was returned to service. I think the scrubber must have been removing and storing nutrients all week long, then when the screen died it transformed the nutrients into some NASTY stuff witch all got dumped back into the system all at once when the water started flowing again??

Not just food being dumped in, but no filtering to take care of it.

Just made a discovery! I dont think it was the scrubbers fault! I started home brewing a while back,and the day my corals wear dying was the same day I placed a fermenter right next to my sump in the basement! When beer ferments it gives off large amounts of co2,,,I think this caused my ph to drop like crazy! I opened some windows today and moved the beer to the other side of the basement and my corals are looking great. I will let you know in the morning how everything went...
