I really wanted to purchase a SM 100... I was gonna purchase one a few months ago but figured id wait til after new year cuz of money constraints. Are they not available anymore or is there a new version that is 50% more expensive without any changes to the unit?

Not available now.

After the plans are posted for the new version, if people still want the SM100 for $999 + shipping, then I'll make some more. But there was no profit at $649.

But you probably have the parts already for the new version. Might take 30 minutes to make it.

You can build one of the old types for under 50 bucks if you have the pump and a sump area to put it in. Get the dimensions of the old type build here. http://algaescrubber.net/forums/showthread.php?1419-New-sizing-guidelines

But if the new one will be better, even $50 is too much since it will be useless in a couple months. :)

There is no way it will be useless. This new one will be easier to make fit onto the top of a smaller tank. If a tool gets the job done its still valuable if it works. When they come out with a new year model car I do not consider my out dated model useless, it may not be as nice or have fancier features but, it still serves its function. I am sure the new technology is going to be better but it will not render the working older units useless. I am also sure that some people that are struggling with a scrubber might find the new info a huge benefit and surely they might scrap anything they are having problems with and go new type.

I am developing one around the e-shine 50W LED grow bar. Yeah it'll be the old (current) style but I plan on building the new version around the same fixture so all will not be lost.

No pricing set up yet though. Stay tuned to the DIY reseller forum though.
