I went trough some aquarium supplies and put together my UAS for testing pusrposes.

It will run in-sump where the outflow from my waterfall is.

I came with an idea for testing: I've switched the air pump together with the lights, just to see if that impacts, later i'm planning to reverse it..

For the coming week it will have to do it with "left over" light only in my cabinet, but soon a CFL will be installed for it.

So updates Soon..

Just like you don't want to shut off the flow on a waterfall scrubber, you don't want to shut the air off to the UAS. Nor will it do any good to light it with no flow to the algae.

Ok I came up with something I call, best of both worlds..

I did the folowing:

In my waterfall, I added about 3 cm PVC on top of my outflow to slightly raise the waterlevel inside.
So about 30% of the screen in under water.

In the water inside the box I've added an air-line without a stone. Opposite of the outflow.

Result: The full submerged half of the scrubber has gone 3D within 5 days..

Excellent idea.

Could you post a photo showing the difference between the submerged part of the screen and the rest of it?

Damn dude, that's good! I'd be interested to see how that works out. hyrbid u/d AS. if you really wanted to do it well, it would have to have multiple drains and all. might not be worth messing too much with though as who knows what's coming up in the next few months

Very getto, but this was my first trail.. You can see how much more algae there are grown around where the air is added..
After this 'proof' I raised the water level a bit.

Forgot too mention 7 days growth in that video

You've got a crapload of excess flow out of your slot that is not going down the screen, is that what I am seeing/hearing?

Yup, I can silence it completely by turning down the overflow ballvalve. But this is more reliable and I think helps in my growth.

That is great growth. I am thinking about injecting my supply pipe with air on my water fall to see how that does.

The advantage I think for this solution is there are also bubbles going upstream on the waterfall,
Which kicks growth..also much quicker dense green growth. And the algae strains have become stronger.
So I'm a happy user..

I think the air stone may even act similar to adding a fan to the scrubber box. I added two computer fans to my 40G waterfall scrubber box yesterday. I still want to inject the supply pipe with air as well.
