Well folks time to change direction from the water fall to the up flow scrubbers. I have converted my water fall scubber into the UAS. I have incorporated to be hung on the side of the sump.. Also added the LED and heat sink on both side. I was originally wanted to just use one side lighting. But, change my mind when I figure I can mounted on the side instead. Luckly, I had enough space in my sump are and my cabinet door was able to clost shut. Everything is already done, last thing I need to do is plumb the UAS and start testing.

Once everything has been completed, I will spray paint it black but not the heat sink area.

without further ado here are some pictures..

here is testing and leveling out the sump.

Thanks!!.

Today, I finish test fitting the input pipes. Marked all the connection points for final gluing and assembly. Will start masking the area to be painted.

updated photo's.

Wow! You are a craftsman. I am surprised you didn't plumb it from your overflow though.

If(since) design is now built on feeding and not on volume. I think this may be a winner because then the actual sump itself can be scaled way down.

Scrolling back up to look at it. If there were boxes built water tight)on the outside where the lights go and designed that they slid in from the top. A ninety placed on the bottom bulkhead to accept the pump. This could become an "in sump" model too.

Thanks! Working with acrylic is alot more forgiving than glass.

I kept this design to accommandate my sump area. Since I have a 15gal sump, there isn't much room to play with. And plus my cost to cosst overflow was already hard plumb already. didn't want to mess with it since it's already working fine.

Yes, it will have it's own pump feeding it and yes, I can dial it down if I see the flow is too much.

If I had a bigger sump and bigger area cabinet I would definitely design it differently. But, this is a learning process like anything new.. you just have to go with your gut instincts. LOL.

More to come later, as I need to pick up few more pieces like the air stone and pvc end caps....

Time to update my progress on this project. I have finish the UAS and it's currently running. Playing with the light schedule now. But everthing else is fully operational. Best part of this? There wasn't any leaks!! LOL

Lay out the LED. 6 LED on each side.

Screen roughed up?

yes, screen was rough up. you can"t see it, since I have that clear sheet plastic over it and the flash doesn't help either.

It doesn't look rough in any of those pics you posted. It needs to be super-rough.

Also just a comment on your LEDs, i can't say I'm a true expert on soldering, but it looks to me like you don't have enough solder on those wire leads. the solder should cover the wire completely. Looks like you used rather large wire and this might be what I'm seeing also. I use 22 gauge solid core wire, that's more than enough. You don't need #12 stranded or anything which is what that looks like. I guess at this point if it ain't broke don't fix it, but you might have a wire pop off if your solder job it's enough, so just keep that in mind.

LOL.. I think it's rough enough.. at one spot it's like almost paper thin.. that how much I rough it up with the hole saw bit.. \

I use 18 gauge strand wire. it was what I had on hand from my pervious LED project. it works. Can't judge from the pic quality, but i've pre tint all the contact points on the LED and pre tint the wires before I solder them together. So, there isn't any cold solder points/joints on this solder job. Been soldering for ages.. so this isn't something new to me. :D and plus after each solder joint, I would just preform a "tug" test to make sure it's solder properly.

oh by the way, did you guys notice when you roughing up the screen with the hole saw bit, you create a "directional"roughness. Meaning when you run your hands after roughing it, one direction is kind of smooth and the otheer is kind of rough? Since my water was up flowing from the bottom to the top. I have flipped my screen the (roughness) pointing downwards, basically acting like a anchor for the algae to hook or grow on to. Probably mention somewhere in this forum, but just throwing it out there thats all.

Are you saying this is a pic of the roughed-up screen?

Oops, froming looking at my collection of pics I uploaded, I guess that pic wasn't the roughing one. :( but hey, you get the idea, right?
