I to was going to make something similar to that, but started experimenting with bubblers and screens. They guys suggested to me 2700k to 3000k because it has more red in it to promote algae growth, But I'm still a newbie at this process so I may be incorrect. Looks good I like it..

Use the 2700K bulbs for the best growth as the horizontals need all the help they can get. If you can get good growth it should handle a cube or a bit more.

Ruddybop and Kerry,
thanks for feedbacks, I decided use plant/aquarium (18 watt POWER COMPACT 2700K aquarium)
but wonder if it is enough for 13.5 x 2.5 screen, I tend to feed about 1-2 cubes a day for my 75 gal reef that contains
a lot of corals with two blue damsels, two domino damsels, clarkia clownfish, flame angelfish and yellow tang along with
probably 100 cerith snails, 100 varies hermit crabs, seperent starfish and banded coral shrimp.
I just placed it to my current refugium..

Any feedbacks are welcome...
thanks..

I would try to shoot closer to 40W is you could. Horizontals are a bit handicapped. I have one that took a long time to figure out. You Might even try to damn the end of it a little bit so the algae will kind of float at the bottom end. I have the end of mine in the water and this seems to give me the best nutrient export. I will get a pic for you. OK, here it is, its not the best pic but you see the algae floating in the water above the screen. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/q566/kerryconklin/new%20scrubber/2012-06-30_08-15-00_34.jpg

That looks great for three days. In another 10+ days you might have a pretty good amount of algae on there. Time will tell if its going to be green or brown, its a little under powered in the light department. Let it grow a bit and it will show what its going to do. Even if its brown it still filters but not near the rate of green.

put mirror under the trough, it will help the roots.
