I don't have any details as far as water quality just that pond is peanut shaped roughly 1,500 gallons with 50+ fish in it. Scrubber box is fed by a danner mag 9.5. Scrubber is solar powered on the front, timed 14 hrs on 10 hr off with a 12 watt led grow light that I got off ebay for around $25, on the back. Acrylic box measures at 12'' wide, 16" tall, and 2.5" deep. Screen is a full sheet at 10.5" x 13.5", with the top 2+/- not submerged. Bubble wand is a 10" Aqua Culture from Walmart. Air pump is a Pond Logic PondAir 4 with two lines running the screen and the other two lines running an included stone from the kit at each end of the pond. Built a treated 2x4 and plywood box for a stand for the scrubber box and shelter for the pump an light. Let me know what everyone thinks.

I'd recommend some plants in there, water hyacinth or water lettuce maybe.

Have you tried barley straw? I used to use it in my 20x10x4 pond to great effect. I was feeding like 2 cups of food a day to my many koi, some of which were 20"+ I did have plants in the pond as well, but without the straw the water would be green and cloudy.

edit: I was going to add this handy link: http://ohioline.osu.edu/a-fact/0012.html

For the UAS you would want it to be easy to remove and clean.

Not sure how much help the low power LEDs are going to be. Since the sun is free, you might put a V-shaped reflector there instead.

Interesting read, Thank you. I hope to have a pond set up in the next year or two and algae was of a concern. I am going to try in integrate a scrubber into one of the water falls I plan to have for the returning water.

I plan on adding some plants once I find some that are native to Missouri and also attractive. The screen is easily cleanable. I build a box that is 2+/- in. tall. It supports the screen and blocks light from the bubbler. SM what kind of pre-made LED would you or anyone else recommend for this application?

I don't have any recommendations for LEDs.

12w LED should be about to light a 24 square inch screen.

It is lighting one side that is about 100 sq. inches.
Here is a couple paints of the screen support and how I modified the screen so it would stay centered in the box.

What fixture does that LED light screw into? A regular desk lamp type or something else?

Yes.

Yes it is a regular socket. Its a work light type like santa monica sells without a reflector.

Great, thanks! I need more lighting, and this sounds affordable and easy to set up.

Hi, I am interested in koi and how a uas might work outside. I have been trying a waterfall type in a small fountain type 'pond'. Makes me wonder if one could keep koi which I understand require a 100 gallons/fish in a whole lot less h20, say a fountain. (:

You can use a UAS or waterfall outside, same as inside, just bigger.
