where does the nitrogen go in a denitrator, i almost sealed a diy coil denitrator without a gas outlet. do i have to make an escape valve seperately or is the nitrogen dissolved in water and goes out in surface exchange?

I was just a hole drilled in the top of it. Its gone and has not been in service in a long time so no pics. The top was a 3" PVC threaded clean out with a hole drilled in the plastic plug that was tapped for a threaded hose nipple and from there the attached hose went to the sump in case of overflow due to blockage.

I have an Aquaripure denitrator on my 72g freshwater tank it has no gas outlet on it and there is no gas outlet. The gas just comes out the return tube.
