that freakin brown algae... I dunno why but the yellow and brown stuff i'm growing is vanishing Phosphate.. and I am NOT going to complain sir!.. lol

I'm thinking the combination of the scrubber with the vinegar and kalk is doing the trick.. I'm loving it... last bit of green algae in the Display is looking like crap.. first time in months...

Plus I think the rock is finally done leaching phosphate.

Not trying to burst your bubble, but did you run the test a few times? I got 0.00 many times using the egg checkers. For the price they are a great tool, but I always run the test a few times and get take an average with the egg checkers. The big meter seems to be more reliable for me but cost a lot more. One time I got 0.00, .21, and .13 all in a row with the egg checker, where as with the big meter I got .13 twice and .14 with the same water.

RkyRickstr
10-16-2012, 06:04 PM
yup.. run the check twice. Not only that but I can tell by the display..

two days ago it was at .06 with same tester, today at 0 and the only reason why I decided to run the test in the first place is because I came in from work and noticed all the algae in the display yellow, dying..

Thanks guys.

I hate that i clean the screen and phos immetiately goes up to .03.. still not too bad, but i wish there was a way to avoid that.

SantaMonica
10-26-2012, 03:15 PM
One thing to experiment with is how long you can let the screen go before measurements go up. When they start going up, the amount of algae dying on the screen is greater than the amount of new algae that's growing.

RkyRickstr
10-27-2012, 07:48 AM
Yes, but i will still get the spike when i clean it.. after a week or after a month.. its no big deal, just anoying.. i think the only fix is dual scrubbers alternating screens.. although if one scrubber can handle 2 cubes and im feefing four, then it would mean id still have a spike while the second scrubber kicks in.. is a no win.

Ace25
10-27-2012, 08:15 AM
Yup, happens to us all Ricky.. for 2-3 days after cleaning levels are higher and I get more green film on the glass. One of the drawbacks of using a single screen. My first scrubber was dual screen and worked better, but like you said, if each screen can only handle 1/2 the food then you still have a small spike after cleaning.

Nice ATS! Did you remove the AUS Hog.5? What is filtering the tank while the L2 gets going?

RkyRickstr
10-27-2012, 05:51 PM
Thanks bud.. you should get one ;)

Yes UAS was a failure for me.. I tried running one as sole filtration and my p went up significantly, then I tried the HOG and three weeks later still no growth.. so I tossed it.

My filtration for now Is just the live rock.. I might do a few water changes depending where my n and p are in a day or two. I also have a reactor, gac and gfo handy if I need it.

SantaMonica
10-27-2012, 06:41 PM
Did you bend the UAS screen back away from the glass, and drill water holes on the other side of the inside cover? Turns out this makes the difference in growth when nutrients are not high (provides more flow inside the cover, and keeps the screen 1" away from the LEDs)

RkyRickstr
10-28-2012, 07:45 AM
Yup.. i got me a 1/4" drill bit and openned up holes on the botom and sides.. I used a tiny ziptie to get it to lay flat and I put if for a week In my display to see if it gets more nutrients delivered... It barely had a yellow hint on the screen.

Well, took watever was still alive to my buddys house yesterday.. tank has live rock.. or should i say half dead rock only.

Got power this morning and hooked everything back up.

Obviously im gonna have a spike. Should I feed while the tank recoups to help the scrubber or are the nutrients from the spike good enough?

SantaMonica

Don't feed.
