How does the HOG.5 compare to the SM100? I currently have a DIY SM100 on a 90g tank. It has a light feeding schedule, 7 fish under 2" long, some corals and some anemones. I'm interested in switching for several reasons. The low energy cos. Hopefully it's more quiet, the plumbing on my scrubber is loud. I'm in Canada and ordering the proper bulbs costs a LOT of money.
Would one HOG.5 keep up? Would two?

You would probably want to get two with that amount of fish and corals. 1/2 cube wouldn't cut it for these animals.

Would I be able to run them off the same air pump?

The pump would need at least 1 lpm (.04 cfm), which most small pumps can handle.

How much clearance does the HOG.5 need inside the tank? Also is it better to have it completely submerged? I've seen a video with it submerged and another where it stuck out about an inch above the water line.

Is that 1 lpm per HOG.5 unit?

The bubbles comming out of it are rather large and make alot of noise.. i couldnt stand it submerged. Besides, doesnt seem like it needs to be as its growing just fine partially submerged.

1 lpm might be enough for 2.
Needs 1 inch clearance.
