I started with a uas for around 2 months which never really took off, so I built a waterfall instead. Feeding a half cube and a few flakes a day so I'm using a 12" squared scrubber using 2x12w cfl bulbs which will be changed to LEDs once I can source then a bit cheaper.

Sump (very small)

Day 7, pictures are alot darker than it actually is. Getting a few small bits of nice green growth. After taking picture I gave it a quick wipe.

Nice. I never got into the UAS thing. Are you feeding the screen with your overflow? That's what I do and I like that I think "all" my water goes pass the screen instead of maybe it is with an UAS scrubber.
I never get the crazy green growth others seem to. But I will tell you that my water is always testing primo.

Your light looks like it might end up under water if the power goes out in the picture. Have you tested for this?

Good eye Sabbath. Funny we notice that stuff on our own set ups. Pay no attention when on others.

Week 2, should I give it a good clean and leave the green or quick scrape?

Nearly 2 weeks of growth, last time I cleaned I scraped it right back virtually nothing on it. It's a bit yellow in the centre so should I retuice by 2 hours?

A bit better? Finally got a nitrate test kit showing as 0

Stupid question, how much should I actually clean off?

The middle is starting to cook; clean it all off and do 10 days.

Very good. Might need a strong scraping to get it off.

Yea I've been using a serrated knife, I'll give a clean and see how it goes. Hopefully it will get better.

Just noticed behind my scrubber on the glass there's a good size patch of hair algae beside the lights. Should I just remove or remove and rub into the scrubber when I clean next?

SantaMonica

The more you remove, the more nutrients stay low.

Or just let some snails feed.

Ericsson

The algae seems to be going black in some areas, why? Screens being cleaned today.
Should I have my lights off for 3 hours at a time instead of 6 in one go? What's the best way? Mill have to get a wider reflector these are too small and is burning the middle slightly. My back glass is full or algae and doesn't seem to be going away, starting to get annoying as it won't wipe off.

For LEDs is it still 1w per inch?

1/2, maybe as little as 1/4
