I think you need some holes in the sides to let water out.

And you certainly need a reflector.

How many watts?

Yes, I was abou to ask how to let the "treated water"
Reflector will be install soon.

SM, any more input before I make a permanent one?

18 watts with reflectors is good for a 3 X 6 inch screen.

If you had very high turbulence/bubbling, the single slot at the bottom might be enough. But I'd say make several small holes on both sides, which fish cannot get through.

SM, is 3x6 inch screen good for a 50g tank. I intend to keep small and only a few fishes, feeding only a cube a day.

Yes normal. Just use a towel and wipe it upwards out of the water.
