View Full Version : Question on algae growth
It has been 1 month and my screen is still growing green film algae, nothing like what you guys are getting those thick hair algae.
Screen size: 6 X 6 inch
Light: CFL warm white 20W
Distance of light: 2.5 inch from screen
Have check my nutrient level and below are the numbers
PO4: 0.0496ppm (Hanna)
NO3: 25ppm (Sera)
If there is a need for pic i will try to get 1 when i am off from work.
Thank!
Regards,
Tian
How much are you feeding a day? That size screen (when lit both sides) can take 3 cubes a day. Is the flow correct at 35gph(US) x 6 inches (total=210 gph(US) ). Is it lit both sides?
Mine took 8 to 10 weeks before it started to get hairy. How long are you leaving it between cleanings?

Is the screen roughed up canvas with holes?
Hours of light per day?

I am using the canvas that is used for stitching as shown in the guide.
Lighting is at 16hrs per day.
Screen is rough up with hole saw. Forgot to add is that the screen is only lid 1 side.

That is not film algae. It is green hair algae. Looks good.
Clean at 14 days.

Can i know why i am getting such slow growth? Or this is normal. For some tank?
For my nutrient, light or flow i should have sufficient for good thick growth.
Thanks!

Stronger light will help, but when nutrients come down it will get better.
i discover that the cyano in my tank is starting to come back.
they are growing on the rocks and sand only. is this because of the leaching phosphate from rocks?

Maybe.
Add a light to the other side.
