Green usually takes 2 to 10 weeks.

In order to get it to work faster, would it help to rub in hair algae into the screen and NOT rinse it off so there are visible pieces of algae on the screen?
OR does this defy the reef concept of all good things happen slowly?

You can try that. Sometimes is all washes away, but if your screen is rough enough, some will stay attached. It still takes time for the algae to attach (anchor) to the screen, and you really can't speed that up. So 'seeding' the screen really just gets the filtering process started, but the curing process still takes time. What I mean is that you might grow algae that filters but it is very weakly attached to the screen. It might speed up the process a bit - but not much overall.
