I've been battling cyno for a long time and nothing seems to help. I'm thinking about trying ChemiClean but I added a HOG.5 upflow algae scrubber on my tank a little more than 3 weeks ago.

Can I use ChemiClean on a tank with a scrubber. The ChemiClean directions say to remove filtration from the tank during this process. Do I need to remove the scrubber? If so, what can I do with the scrubber for a couple days so I don't kill the algae on the scrubber.

Thanks

You can keep the scrubber.

Seen many people lose expensive tanks to chemi-clean. It is very unsafe to use and does nothing to solve the problem that causes cyano, more so since the original formula was outlawed and they had to change it, which seemed to cause most of the problems I witnessed. I would highly recommend against using it and try more natural methods to resolving the problem. Last friend that used it on a 300G mature SPS tank lost over $10,000 in corals and fish.

I've used UltraLIfe red slime remover without fail. Chemi-clean I haven't used.

Chemi-clean = erythromycin, an antibiotic, so you end up wiping out most of the bacteria in the tank. Not good for the biological filtration.
