Hi,
I already had another tank with 36 G, that I used ATS...but i had to sell it and give some parts because i needed to move...
Since now I'll have a stable place, I wanted to set a new aquarium, but made from the stand to the lightning!
I was planning to have a tank with 35cmx35cmx55cm. The 55cm is the height.
It will have a sump, that I plan to have a skimmer, carbon and the ATS.
What would be a good wattage for lightning (Leds from Rapidled).? I plan have a few corals, and a 2 clowns.
The temperature i was thinking in using Coel for regulation...

any other consideration?any advice for starting?I was thinking in start with the stand...

35cm is like 12 inches right?. If your getting a rapid led kit I would order the 12led kit. 8blue and 4white. That would give you nice coverage. Id use 60deg lenses. Sounds like a cool nano.

Uhm... thanks! I'll study this :D
and... any idea of silent overflows designs for me?

Really nice... but I was thinking in not exceeding the tank area...
Do you think some plumbing in the back(but inside) of the tank would pollute the visual?

This design... but internal: http://www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx

Its such a small tank.. I would keep it as simple as posible.

Try to show some nice designed tanks and stands...
I'm looking for a certain design!

I saw some...

Where would the scrubber go?

itzrulez
03-14-2013, 04:44 AM
in the sump, that would be in the stand.

I was thinking in using 2 of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/14W-225LED-Red-Blue-Hydroponic-Plant-Grow-Light-Panel-lamp-Board-Garden-Quadband-/370760890426?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565312383a
for scrubber...
any consideration?

Can I have that whole room?... lol looks awesome

Too weak. You want the 45 or 55 watt version.

SantaMonica, those leds would be for scrubber, are you sure about it?

Floyd R Turbo

Those LEDs are a waste of money for scrubbers. Many have tried. 12" x 12" and 14 watts on 225 LEDs. NOt only would you need a huge screen, it would be severely underpowered.

Floyd, so for my setup ( 2 clowns, some corals in 17G), would you recommend a 2 sided light with 3 leds of 3W?
The total power would be 18W, 9W each side.(Cree Leds)
And Floyd, do you recommend any "ready led light" for scrubber?Like from Ebay or AliExpress....
Thanks.

it all depends on your screen size. I really doubt you're going to exceed 1 cube/day in a 17g tank. So you're talking a 3x4 screen with 2 or 3 660nm Deep Reds on each side. No crees, those are 630nm - they don't make a 660. You need Philips Luxeon for those.

There are many options for the light source, bottom line is that you don't need that much. You might be able to do one of those PAR lamps that has a bunch of 1W LEDs. But honestly for such a small tank, you would be a good candidate for the HOG scrubber that Santa Monica makes.

ok, so I got the stand now...
here it is:
http://imageshack.us/a/img40/971/img0418j.JPG
http://imageshack.us/a/img203/2114/img0419hy.jpg

The surface area of the stand is 40cm x 40cm.
So my dimensions would be 40x40x55cm, giving me 88 liters or 22 gallons.
For circulation I was thinking in a closed loop, using 1 hole for suction, and 2 for distribution, making hole in both tubes to be as close to this as possible:
http://images.spadepot.com/shop/images/catalog/bx9952f.jpg
So, what advice for pump can you guys give me?
considering a return pump divided in 2, plus the closed loop.(In my other aquarium my principal pump F*** with my substrate, so I'm afraid with huge power)
My little sump would be limited to the size of 35cm x 35cm. I'm studying a way to make a nice scrubber that fit in this dimensions, and would have easy maintenance.
In this moment I'm looking for heatsinks for my scrubber, so my ATS will be limited to the heatsink I find.
For filtration I'm thinking in Scrubber, A. Carbon, and Perlon (Particles filtration).
I'm quitting skimmer because of the limited size.

Well I of course think you should have a UAS scrubber and let it be your circulation too. No water pumps needed.

Santa, I didn't understand what you said...
my scrubber would stay in sump, and about circulation I said about the return pump from sump.

Oh. I was not sure what the picture was.

itzrulez
05-01-2013, 10:15 AM
what you think about circulation?

SantaMonica
05-01-2013, 02:51 PM
All that matters is how much flow the screen has.

itzrulez
05-02-2013, 08:24 PM
the tank circulation, can I handle only with the return pump? and for 22 gallons, what return pump should I use?

SantaMonica
05-03-2013, 10:51 AM
Depends on what you want to keep in your display. More return pump for SPS, and less for LPS and softies and fish.

itzrulez
05-04-2013, 09:58 PM
if its a 22 gallon tank, for softies and fish should be 15 times the display? like 300 gallons/hour?

SantaMonica
05-05-2013, 11:29 AM
I would think that would be fine.

RkyRickstr
05-06-2013, 05:22 PM
I would go with more flow... Its not only about the coral, its about debris as well... I don't think you want fish poo visible in the sand.

If you have the money an mp10 would be really cool in a tank like this.. and chances are you will upgrade to nicer corals, then you are already prepared.

Did you come up with a final scrubber design?

I want the visual as clean as possible, that's why I want the return flow, to be my only flow...

I was thinking in a scrubber closer to AC accoral... but smaller.

I had a small tank where the return was the only flow. I drilled the back and put in two 3/4" drains and two 1/2" return outlets. Flow switched between the return outlets with a SCWD to give variable flow in the display. I used a 500 GPH return pump that gave around 300 GPH after head loss. For the returns I did a "Herbie" style with one 3/4" drain at full siphon and an "emergency" that just normally took in just a trickle of flow to give some surface skimming. The scrubber ran the off the siphon drain. The whole thing worked pretty well, was quiet, looked pretty clean, and I had no problem with detritus build up at all.

what was your tank volume??

MorganAtlanta
05-13-2013, 04:24 PM
30 gallon tank, 15 gallon sump

itzrulez

wow, never heard of that SCWD...
googled it... I really want to buy one now!

itzrulez
05-18-2013, 09:06 AM
hey guys... I started buying some things...
I have a doubt here...
would a 6in x 6in screen, with 3 x 3w red led each side enough?
the total is
36 square inches in 18W red led.
and whats the best red spectrum?

SantaMonica
05-18-2013, 10:59 AM
660nm

Depending on how much you drive them, you probably should have 4 to 6 LEDs.

itzrulez
05-18-2013, 03:19 PM
I'm thinking in use this, http://dx.com/p/epileds-sf-3w-gh-3w-660nm-red-light-led-soldering-bulb-plate-silver-186908

edit:
and i should have 4 to 6 less each side? or total?

SantaMonica
05-18-2013, 05:25 PM
They are good, try 6

itzrulez
05-18-2013, 06:49 PM
But on each side?

SantaMonica
05-18-2013, 08:32 PM
Maybe 4 on each side. Place them so they don't shine on the same spot from both sides.

this leds run on 850mA,
but the drivers i've found are 900 or 600...
can you help me find the right one, to run 8 of this http://dx.com/p/epileds-sf-3w-gh-3w-660nm-red-light-led-soldering-bulb-plate-silver-186908
thanks

I was thinking in use this : http://dx.com/p/waterproof-27w-led-constant-current-source-power-supply-driver-yellow-ac-85-265v-175098
to run them at 600mA

SantaMonica
05-19-2013, 11:42 AM
850ma seems high for those LEDs... they might not last long. Better to run them less, so 600ma is good.

That driver will work with 10 total of those LEDs, 5 on each side. It might also work with 8 total LEDs, but you will need to try it first; the driver will flash on and off if it will not work. Get 10 LEDs and connect them all in series in a temporary test; if they stay on for 10 seconds, then it will work and you can take it apart and put them on your scrubber.

ok, ordering!
what should be the led distance from screen?

SantaMonica
05-19-2013, 07:29 PM
For a waterfall, probably 5 cm.

itzrulez

I ordered the Heatsinks... just waiting them to arrive, to make the box! :D

itzrulez
07-19-2013, 12:19 PM
Hi!
I restarted the building, ordered timers, temp. controller...
and started soldering the leds!!
just to assure...
the 5 cm should be like:

leds _5cm_ screen _5cm_ leds

or

leds _2.5cm_ screen _2.5cm_ leds

hope you understand...

itzrulez
07-19-2013, 03:43 PM
sorry SantaMonica...
but i'm not understanding...
its 5 cm led to led (2,5 cm from led to screen)
or 10cm led to led (5cm from led to screen)

SantaMonica
07-19-2013, 06:00 PM
5 cm led to screen

another question, can i use silicone on led?
i already glued it with thermal glue on heatsink, but i'm worried about rusty...
can i use silicone just in electric parts just to protect from rusty?

Floyd R Turbo
07-21-2013, 09:02 AM
There is a company that makes a silicone spray called "LED Seal". You can probably smear a light layer of regular aquarium silicone over the electrical connections though if you want to be safe. You would not need to seal the entire aluminum heat sink, but you could.

itzrulez
07-21-2013, 12:32 PM
uhm... i'll do only in electrical connections like you said.
Floyd, if you have any used algae scrubber that you would like to sell, message me...
I love your products, they have a great quality!
