Those lights are how far from the screen?

And the glass is how thick?

ocean rock
08-26-2009, 09:16 AM
the screen is 3 inches from light , the glass is 6mm , i do get a bit of salt creep , the lamps are 28watts but do have two more to double up to 56 watts might try this but the screens are maturing ,
any tips guys
cheers OC

I'd double up on the lights. Once things are running well, and your tank stats have dropped, you could then cut back the lights to maintain.

hi kcress do you think theres not a lot of growth for a week

ocean rock
08-26-2009, 02:23 PM
hi kcress , i have increased light to 58 watts per side , you could see the brightness improve straight away , "well you would do " the diamond reflective sheeting i got from the hydroponics shop is doing a good job it returns a lot of light , i will post pics before and after clean on Monday , cheers OC

Great! I'd love to see the pics.

If you have ever compared sunlight to our artificial lighting you would see that 58W is dim. So you can kick start things by running more light. Later, you can control your cleaning by just using 3 bulbs or two bulbs, etc.

My recent experience with my VTS (Vertical TS) which had the lights back about 2.5 inches, and behind ever salted acrylic, just gave me the feeling things could be brighter..

hi kcress theres 58 watts on each side of the screen , the flows good and it looks like the algae has improved this morning will keep you posted , thanks for the advice.

Looking really good for 2 weeks. Lotta cleaning coming on-line there.

I notice that there is a slight bald spot developing in the middle. Easy fix... you can either move the bulbs a bit farther away, or turn them off 2 extra hours a day, or gett smaller bulbs (40W), or increase flow. Otherwise looks good.

Oh I see, it's where the bulbs cross in the middle, and there is more light there. Just reduce the ON time by and hour, and see how it looks in a week..

hi SM , have set the lights to come on at 0800 and go off at 0000 , so that gives them a 8 hr rest , before they were on from 0800 to 0200 which gave the a 6 hr rest , will post pics in seven days , then if need be i can have the lights come on at 0800 and go off at 0100 , hope that makes sense , cheers for the add vise
