This is my old setup.
one side 55 watt pl with a screen of 50 cm bij 8 cm this runs 4 months without a skimmer on a 1100 liter system.
4466446744684469
some pictures of my system (the fish don't like pictures I think)
It works butt I missed something it was the light because it was one sided there had to be 90 watts on it and not the 55 watt I had now.
That would not work with pl so now it is led I need.
A DIY project.

Amazing display you have there :)
Your new scrubber design looks good too. I believe the new LEDs will be a lot more efficient than the old pl lights. You may also want to add some blue 455nm LEDs to further optimize algae growth.

Andy.
Thanks I try to make a nice reef and it is always good to hear it looks good.
And for the leds I understand bleu is for bacteria grow and red for algea thats wy I only use red.
Santa Monica.
I hope it will work oke its rubber so it would be easy to remove the screen whitout removing the splash gard.

pictures says more than words.
The growing is from 6 days butt on 24 hours.
It more algea than i gett on 14 hours so i tink my leds are burning to low the work on 350 ma so tat is on half power.
I orderd a 600 ma driver to see what happends.
It must be to big flow ore to less light i think.
my po4 and no3 rised up to 0.15 and 5 thats wy i run the light longer.

my screen is 25 cm and 12 cm down and is lit by 20 leds 3 watt 660nm max power is 700Ma and now running on 350Ma would upgrading to 600Ma do the trick ore should I run other leds?
SantaMonica
09-28-2013, 11:36 AM
That is probably the problem. 350ma is very little. I would do at least 500 as long as it does not get too hot.

Oke thanks
I orderd the 600ma so lets see what happends.
The temp whould increase i think its now almost 28 celcius after burning a day so i will putt a fan on it.

algae must have a dark period! 24/7 lighting is a big no-no. With the LEDs you have, I would think that 12 hours would be enough. I would have started there

I had them on 14 hours for a almoust 2 months butt wen i gott higher no3 and po4 i putt them on 24 to see what happends.
The should burn the algea butt the algea are dark so i need more power.
I putt them on 22 hours till my driver comes in.
Hope it will work with more power.

Hi Varke
FYI - I have 20x3w LEDs (16 red & 4 blue) running 14hrs a day on two mean well LPC-35-700 drivers (10leds each driver) with great growth. I'm about two months into my build now. Algae is just starting to turn light green in places but is mostly still darkish. The screen size is A3 but the light only realy hits 2/3rds direct with the bottom 1/3 slightly out of direct light. The entire mat still gets covered in growth though.
Here is a link to the drivers

Thanx snoops
I orderd the 600ma because i don t want to run full power.
I thougt that half power should work and it would be a lot less heat.
Greetings.

It looks like your getting ok growth now so any amount of more light will be better, but IMO full power for half the time will give better results then 3/4power for 3/4 time (or longer).
Cheers

The best is to have clean-up-crew eat it. This will put more food particles in the water for the corals.

I have a few sand stars and the black round long thing that eats the sand (don't know the englisch name) it even split so now i have two.
mayby i need some extra clean-up-crew i look in to it
Thanx

I have been adwised to put a filter sok on the tube from the tank in the sump to collect the detritus... I have the same problem as you with cyano...
varke

I putt a pomp in my sump with a pipe on it with a lott of holes drilled in it and around this pipe i rolled filterwool.
After a few days i gett it out en glean the wool and putt it back after a few times the wool gets closer and filers much better.
I let it in until there comes some air out of the pomp then i clean them again.
This filters very well my sand is getting cleaner.
I go with my fingers in the sand to get it up and the wool gets it out.
For now this works.
Greetings
