Black plastic canvas

Is it ok to use black roughed up plastic canvas or does it have to be white canvas. I just tried to make a float scrubber with hydraulic cement and crushed live rock which was an epic fail. I'm going to try an acrylic box with roughed up canvas and nylon rope on the inside. Would that work? I have the black laying around.

Black does not reflect light, so it would not be as good.

White nylon string is good.
