Just think of the posibilities for building a high power budget fluorescent light fixture.

You couldget 120 watts spread out over 4x1' or 240 watts over a 4x2' area and buy bulbs for dirt cheap.

Whew. Very long read. Interesting. Would make sense only in really tight designs IMO. But could be a great solution for tight designs.
