I recently bought a hog.5 and a fusion 400 pump. I am excited to see how it works but have a question about the pump. Somewhere in the literature it says you need a pump that puts out up to 1.0 l/m. I read that the fusion 200 didn't put out very much so I decided to get the 400. I also got the 400 because it has a dial so you can decrease the output if you want to. Drs. Foster and Smith show the outputs for each pump here (http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=19779). The 400 shows 1.9 l/m. I'm wondering how much it puts out when its dialed all the way down. I couldn't find this anywhere online. Does anyone know? It seems like it is putting out a lot of air.

Welcome.

Usually pumps put out about a third or a fifth as much when dialed down. You can put a liter container under water and see how long it takes to fill up.

Once the HOG is growing, it can get by with less flow.
