Hog1 growth.

I have had a Hog1 in my 55gal Mbuna tank for 3 weeks now. ( have cleaned it every week)
The leds are on for 20 hrs a day.
I have done a 50% water change in the last 2 weeks bringing the nitrates down from 40 to 5.
Because they have come down so much I reckon the Hog unit is already removing nitrates.

Is this growth normal, should I change anything?6867

Should I change the time the leds are on because of lower nutrients or not?

Welcome from the UK,

You have really high nutrients, causing black slime growth. It lets go quickly, and blocks light from reaching the white rocks, so clean more often (toothbrush in your sink), and go to 24 hours light (no timer).

All growth removes nutrients, so you will get even more filtering by going with more light and cleaning more often.

Thanks I have light on 24hrs now and will check the unit daily and clean when neccessary.
