This is a low-power mode of the SURF4x. It is a pattern of 6 of the 12 LEDs, connected to one of the power cords. The other 6 LEDs are connected to the other power cord, and when both are plugged in you have full power. Low-power lighting (combined with shading from the included black shade cloth) is usually needed on new installations because the bright red light is reflected off of the white Green Grabber® rocks and strings, making the light even brighter; too bright for algae to grow. Once growth occurs, however, you need the bright light to travel through the growth to keep it alive and growing.

This is why you need waterproof submersible lights for a scrubber in sump water. Yes this is a light, and not a screen.

This is a rare photo of cyano filling up a scrubber. This SURF4 or 4x has contained a lot of the floating red cyano, without letting it escape out the drain holes on the bottom. This cyano will be removed/cleaned/harvested with the regular cleaning of the scrubber. You don't see this amount of red cyano on a waterfall scrubber screen because it would let go and wash away.

Packed SURF4 or 4x showing what looks mostly like Cladophora species, and maybe a little Ulva Fasciata. It is growing on the light too, which needs to be scraped off with a plastic card (like a credit card) to get the most illumination into this growth.

No this is not green foam in a bathtub. It's a filled up SURF4 or 4x scrubber® in saltwater, and you can sort of see the four growth areas above the four bubble outlets.

This particular type of slime growth in this SURF4 or 4x scrubber® does not get any thicker. So, you wash it out with fast water in your sink or with a hose. In a waterfall scrubber this growth falls right off, but in an upflow it is mostly contained.

A SURF4x scrubber® after a cleaning and maybe a spraying out too. Probably taken out of the sump to spray out slime from the Green Grabber® rocks and strings.

This new SURF4x scrubber (tm) is half shaded with the included black shade cloth, which dims the light that otherwise would be too bright reflecting from the white Green Grabber textures and strings. After more growth fills in, the cloth is not used anymore.

This SURF4 or 4x is fuffy and full of growth. The red arrow is the light, removed and set down in the water.
