Here are some pics before and after cleaning of the screen from my 55gal. ATS.
Also, I found an old microscope and decided to try and see if I could spot any pods from my screen. I took a sample of water with a spoon and put a drop on the slide. Just in one drop there were thousands. Lots of tiny dust size, and larger ones that dart across the slide and others just spinning around. Pretty fascinating to watch !!!

I did that too. Used one of my kids "toy" microscrope.

Also, last time i cleaned, I could see hundreds of larger pods running around in the scrapings, perhaps 1 to 2mm in size.

These are good fish food and I am going to have to find a way of harvesting them.

I thought I might set up a small tank with an airstone and put the screen scrappings in it and then harvest pods with a little turkey baster or one of those water sample drip things you get with test kits.


The other thing I'm considering is using the scrapings to make a form of nori. I have a tang and a dwarf angel which require algae in their diet and since running a scrubber means a much reduced level of algae growth in the tank I'm having to feed nori to supplement, which seems a bit daft since I'm buying and feeding dried algae with one hand and then scraping it back out with the other. Of course I'd have to put much less back in than I'm taking out (otherwise running a scrubber would be pointless).

Another weeks cleaning from my 55 gallons ATS. Seems to be growing much better in the acrylic box.
N and P are 0. Calcium 490. Ph 8.2
