Hello, Santamonica
I'm a hobbist from China, where few people play with salt water. I had read your articles about ATS . And I also DIY a ATS system. It has been passed about 4 weeks, i do not know whether the effect is normal.
I would like to know when to grow long hair algae.
On the FAQ, I have read, just want you and other masters to direct me please. Thank you.
My system is 120 liters

Is not very good growth yet for 4 weeks. You should have that much growth in one day.

Did you use holes or a slot in the pipe? It should be a slot.

You used a clear pipe; but you need to use an opaque (not clear pipe), like PVC.

The light is too far away, and too small, and needs another one on the other side. How many watts is it?

The screen is too smooth; make it more rough:

well thx
and my pipe is slot ,but really clear.
the light is 36 watt on one side about 10cm ,so if the light is enough?
the screen is rough on one side, because i can not get double rough one
and the pump is 12 watt, is it enough?

and could you tell me why the pipe should not be clear?
thanks for your patient again

a clear pipe will grow algae inside itself and clog, causing it to spray or just stop flowing water. good luck!

As long as the screen is covered in thick flow, it is OK for now. That bulbs seems small for 36 watts. Is it real or equivalent watts?

I changed my system using two 12 watt pumps supply the water, and these are the pics now , so i hope this time could be succeed!
so is it right now?

Point the light at the middle of the screen.

Remove the light on the other side... it is not helping. Better to get another bulb like the front one.

Rough the screen up.

Get a new pipe. That clear one is going to fill up with algae.

hi you guys, i'm back.
After a period of experiment, i found "scrubber" is not for me. So i changed the set up, and i'm did it.

now the "new scrubber" has to be cleaned once a week, and we can see all kinds of algaes on it .

I put a liverock in the fliter tank, and more and more Maiden's Hair algae grows on it. And it's hard to get rid of them.

http://b61.photo.store.qq.com/http_imgload.cgi?/rurl4_b=af01d9b5944aa1ee4b97b64ce7460f861475d38029 ece4ae3e30ed4947a65c2ca77a5959aaa447ea8a70ba93a21e f5d40fae171c40b60a5f6ea8eff2d9c7f6937ac51980912dbe 0bdf01ff344d4243a5b4c0f031&a=57&b=61

After i changed the setting, there was a leakage accident. I moved my fishes and corals to the LFS. But unfortunately my Zebrasoma desjardinii clownfishes and clam were dead at there.
And now the system is mature . There were 5 fishes , 1 shrimp , 6 corals in it. I feed the corals twice a week and feed the fish twice a day. By the "scrubber's" working, water is clean. no3<12.5, po4 can not be tested.
Although the tank is under the sunlight but there was no too much algae grow on the glass walls or liverock. I hope the tank could be better and better.

By the way, I don't like the background of the tank, but it's my boss's idea. So......

Glad to see it is back on track.

Can you move the light closer to the screen?
