Ok... after researching several articles and this site extensively ... I've decided to experiment with an algae turf scrubber. I mean anything that...."removes the "bad" things (nutrients) from aquarium water, while leaving the "good" things (food, nutrition) in" can't be half bad...

Here are a few photos...
I wanted to have this contained in small area so I went to Wal-mart and found a Clear container for cereal.... just added a bulkhead. http://members.cox.net/radykstra/Tank/ATS3.jpg
I'm testing this on a 28 gallon so I went a bit overboard and made screen just under 7x7.....
(photo is after 3 days of algae growth)

I added a 13w 7000K lamp I had in the back, and a 15 W CFL softwhite in front

Looks great. Nice wide reflectors spread the light out evenly. Growth is good for 3 days. Will be a good filter.
