cleaning scrubber box

how important is it to clean the scrubber box itself? the box of my scrubber grows about 1/4" of algae on its floor every 1-2 weeks. I have been cleaning it out but that always causes a snowstorm of algae in my tank no matter how much I try to wipe it out,and its a major PIA.

For highest filtering, you should clean it each week. If your filtering is already working the way you want, you can leave it longer between cleaning. If you don't need strong filtering, but instead want to feed your corals the most, then don't clean it.

What I do is grab what I can by hand, then run a paper towel over it.
