"Sly" on the SWF site, who built a scrubber into a kitchen trash can (including a mechanical surge), gets the award for the biggest scrubber harvest so far on any site:

I think having a surge on the scrubber is key to getting good algae growth. The algae needs time to breath before it gets submerged again... It's been 3 days since I harvested and I am almost ready to do it again. ;)

I agree. I'll be trying a pulse on my acrylic soon. With a pulse, the algae stays soft and watery and does not stick to the screen. However for ease of cost and building, it really simplifies things to not have one.
