I decided to make my ATS above the tank in a gravity-fed refugium style tank.

But I can't get rid of the bubbles!!! what can I do to get rid of the bubbles?

Ignore the ghettoness and all, its only been up a few days, so nothing is pristine... and yes, things will be cleaned up SOON. lol.

First picture is from my seat. The black tube is the overflow -just incase something happens.
The second picture is inside, 90* angle going down

One idea-lowering the shelf more and inserting a 1" drain instead of the 1/2" drain... or getting a smaller powerhead. I do have a MJ 900 powering the sucker...

Is the screen in the water?

in that picture it was raised. I'm using a plastic roughed up sheet instead of screen.

But when its in all the way it is touching the water, at the base, yes. When its running, there's no bubbles in the refugium. I am getting a whirl pool from the drain IN the refugium. I suck as much air as water, it appears. We tried making it longer on the 90*, it just sucked the water down farther in the bucket.

Sheet has to be replaced with screen.

Try reducing drain flow with a valve. This will cause backup in the scrubber, and at some point will stop the air.

Also try moving the hose position around.

And have the drain on the opposite end of the fuge than the return.

mmm, I've seen quite a few designs with the sheet. Its the plastic cutting board that's been roughed up to high h#$LL, and they were working just fine...?

The rest I can start doing though, thanks.

Cutting boards are made out of non-stick plastic.

Plastic canvas, roughed up, is far better.

A taller container so water can be deeper to avoid whirlpool action. You had/have a good idea about turning return down with elbow. But water is still too shallow. Ading a valve like SM stated will work but screen will be more submerged and thus rendering it smaller. New taller container time.
