I am working on a scrubber in a psuedo sump for a JBJ Nano Cube 28g. For getting water from the tank, I am using an eShopps PF Nano overflow box. This should provide up to 200gph. For the sump, I am using an Ikea plastic bin with lid. My screen will be 5x6 and lit on both sides. I have bought some candelabra bulbs and fixtures. The bulbs are 13w CFL at 2700k. I plan on placing these about 3-4 inches from the screen and using mirrored plexy as a reflector. Will the bulbs in the picture be OK for a nano, or should I go with a standard socket size?

They will be ok if they are 13 real watts, not equivalent. Socket size does not matter.

So, here is my scrubber. It fits in the JBJ stand. I just started it up today. I am going to make some tweaks to it including:

Painting the box black (except for a water level indicator like on a quart of oil)
Maybe some more holes
A more powerful return pump
Reflectors

Critique is welcome.

End cap is on loosely so that the screen can be removed for cleaning. This is about 3" from bulb to screen.

Yes need reflectors, or foil. You are loosing over half the light. Otherwise looks good.

Now with 200% more reflector:

Much better. Now curl the edges of the foil so that light cannot get out the sides at all.

I'm using the pumps that came with the tank. I have them both return back to the original locations. Had to use both, one was not enough. If you are using the PF Nano overflow, you are gonna want 200+ gph return after head losses.
