This bubble-shaped growth, which only happens on the Green Grabber® strings (and not the white rocky surfaces), is rare and it's not known why it happens. It's not bubble algae (valonia species), but instead is regular green hair algae that has formed into bubble shapes on the strings. This is probably to help maximize nutrient absorption.
