Just want some input on my first attempt
Hi Everyone.
This is my first try at making an algae scrubber, so I would appreciate any input from you guys/gals.
I have heard so many good things about these natural nitrate/phosphate removers, so I am now determined to make up an algae scrubber for my Boyu TL550 24gal.
I am going to make it in a fliptop/pedal bin with 2 x 38w 2d lights @ 3500k http://www.worldwideshoppingmall.co.uk/ ... in-38w.asp
I am going to surround the inside with mylar diamond reflective foil http://www.hg-hydroponics.co.uk/1m-diff ... 2334-p.asp.
And enclose the lamps in diy acrylic boxes. Here is the basic priciple of what the finished scrubber will look like without the lights. http://www.thereeftank.com/gallery/show ... hp?i=20720
I have the plastic sheet for the algae to grow on http://www.magicladycrafts.co.uk/10ct-p ... -213-p.asp
I will post pictures when I start the project.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi SantaMonica.
Thanks for letting me know.
Hopefully I have fixed the links now.
Alan.
Re: Just want some input on my first attempt
The mesh you want is the #7, not the #10. I can't remember which is smaller, but you want the 7. I'm sure the 10 would probably work though. Everything else looks good

Thanks Floyd R turbo.
I already have the plastic sheet and luckily it is the 7 guage, I have roughed it up already on my wifes tongue.....Oh sorry, I meant a hole saw ;)
Is it better to use 1 sheet or 2 together?
Alan.
Re: Just want some input on my first attempt
1 sheet is simpler and easier. you can do 2 sheets, if you want. But I don't think it's necessary.
