You guys are brilliant. Thanks for helping me out!
tomservo - I've never set up parallel strings before and just want to clarify. I was doing two strings of 12, so 24 LEDs total on the one driver. When running parallel, on the math do I double the...
I've been collecting parts to change out my CFL scrubber for LED. I need help with the LED setup math. For my fish room I'm going to do a 5-6 cube Waterfall ATS. 10" x 7" screen lit on both sides,...
Intriguing idea. I definitely think SM deserves some kind of monetary compensation for his designs. $5 is a value no-one should scoff at. Price of one cheap fish.
I'd go for some kind of license...
Just a FYI - these worked out great. Very cheap, and they work. The shipping was a little sluggish, but for the price I couldn't be happier!
Hey all,
I found a great deal on F24T5 bulbs in the 3000K temperature. These are such a great price I wonder if they are "too good to be true". Any opinions? Anyone ever order from...
Sorry for the confusion. The round hydroponic lights did not hold up against the humidity. I have not put LEDs on the SM100 (yet). For now I am using Nova fixtures.
You didn't have an SM100 - didn't you have an open screen with the two round fixtures, or am I totally losing my mind?[/quote]
I built a SM100 too. :D I just haven't had time to make a thread...
I meant for my SM100 (which is in my stand).
Nice! I'm looking forward to seeing how your fixture holds up to the humidity! My LED fixtures did horribly.
I've always had spray blockers up thankfully (thin plexiglass covering both sides of the screen that are about 2" bigger than the screen). The rust generally wipes right off on the outside of the...
Had a fairly major setback with this. The lights are not holding up well against the high moisture of my sump. One light has stopped working altogether. So I'm discontinuing the use of these lights....
My nems are very upset lately. Moving around like crazy.
This is a FTS from when I set up the tank originally. Same amount of LR now. I could probably use more rock. It's BRS "Reef Saver" Eco Rock

Updated parmeters 8/11/2011
Nitrate is up to 0.50 ppm from 0.25 ppm on 8/5
Phosphate is still zero ppm on the Hanna Checker
Cleaned screen is greening up nicely so far.
While my Lighthouse LED experiment is still going on my display tank, I thought I'd set up a CFL rig for my breeding system. Mostly this was a financial decision as I would like to see if the LED...
I can't really tell a difference to be honest. They seem to do about the same. Next time I clean I'm going to measure scrapings from each side separately and see if one fixture is doing better.
Excellent. I'll keep on it then. Thanks for your help guys!
Baseline Readings 6/22/2011 3:30pm:
Nitrate (Red Sea Nitrate Pro high res): 2-3 ppm
Phosphate (Hanna Checker) 0.05 ppm
In the past they have been much higher on this tank. The Nitrates were...
This experiment has been interesting. I do have high nutrients for sure. The screen seems to be getting better and better. I'm just on week 6.5 so about halfway to an "established" screen from what I...
Ok my flow is approx 515 GPH. My screen is 16.25" wide, so my target is 569 GPH. Is that close enough or should I put back the QO 4000?
Well heck that is simple enough. I'll give that a try. Thanks!
I don't have any way to measure flow. Aren't flow meters like $175? The QO 4000 was spraying water everywhere so I put a QO 3000 on and it seems to be good. Maybe my screen slit needs to be wider? I...
Holy crap. A good surprise for once!
Um I think its working....
Nitrates measure 0.25ppm (Red Sea Nitrate Pro test)
Phosphates measure 0.00 ppm (Hanna Checker 713)
This is AFTER my skimmer...
Updated setup pics. It is much quieter, and the lights are safer from spray with some super thin acrylic pieces from Lowes. Also if it leaks, well...it will do so into the sump. I'm pleased....
Small update. I got really sick of my ghetto rig leaking. The final straw was this morning when I came downstairs to find 4 gallons of water on the carpet. I've had plenty of spills before for...
I increased the flow and changed the lighting to be 2 hours less per day. I'll see if I can get some of that diffusion grating today. It would help protect the lights from splatter too! These lights...
Excellent - I'll make the adjustment now. Thank you!
7 day pic updates! I need som expert advice. Do you think the lights need to be further away or I need to increase the flow? I'm not sure. The center of the screen is kindof baldish. Browns grew...
Baseline Readings 6/22/2011 3:30pm:
Nitrate (Red Sea Nitrate Pro high res): 2-3 ppm
Phosphate (Hanna Checker) 0.05 ppm
Both readings were absolute zero just few weeks ago.
I decided to experiment with some of the latest hydroponic grow lights. Not those cheap eBay panels, but the high power LED fixtures from LightHouse Hydro with 1 or 2 watt CREE LEDs. I got the...
That was my general conclusion after talking to Sean. There are tons of studies focusing on parts of the spectrum for Bryopsis or various green and red algae. They're hard to read, some are super...
I talked to 2 guys. Brian took my order, but the other guy (don't know is name) is who I really talked to. He's probably still there.
I'm willing to experiment with the UV and IR. He said he's...
I'm forever tinkering too. The light spread is my main concern so I called Gotham Hydropoincs and had a good conversation. The guy was interested to hear about my little experiment. They just started...
I've been stuggling trying to figure out the best config for my ATS. I've read all the posts about T5 and LED and I know I will go with one of those. I'm good with acrylic and will build something...
Hi vira - I'm planning to build one like yours. What is piece #9 for? Did you build a top?
Thanks much!
