Thanks for answering my questions. I have 3 FW aquariums with scrubbers and have had good success with them in managing nitrates. Previously all were growing the long and stringy algae that breaks...
Well that blows a theory I had regarding this type of algae. I too have this algae growing on one of my aquariums.
How big is your tank? Whats the bio load?
Chris - I have some questions for you;
What additional filtration are you doing?
Are you using any carbon?
How long are you running the lights per day?
How long between your water changes?
...
Nothing to be thankful for yet....sigh
I am seeing algaescrubber.net on Tapatalk when I search for it but get an error when I try to connect.
Or a new screenpipe :)
I have a filter sock on my L2s, but the L4 with the outflow restriction setup I'd have to use a 7" sock to get around it. I'm thinking we will need to talk about you making me a mounting bracket. ...
So I have had excellent results with my algae scrubbers on FW tanks keeping my nitrates down between water changes but I noticed something recently that I'm not a fan of. I setup a new tank a week...
Just tap it in..tap tap tap tappity tap
The filter sock works great, but what I've also found is that by reducing my light/dark ratio I am growing a much thicker algae that isnt stringy. Basically I went from having the scrubber on 24hrs...
It seems to me that the important part of the equation is protein. If the food you are feeding has %50 protein and you feed 1 gram then you have fed 0.5 gram of protein. This should be taken into...
6 day later still running 24/7 lights

This screen was new two weeks ago. I included the last picture to show what the screen looked like after I scraped it. Basically it has almost no root system whatsoever.

I recently started an L2 with a brand new screen and have been running the light 24/7. In less than 1 week I've had an interesting result. I have 3 or 4 places on the screen that algae has grabbed...
I think the good Dr sums it up in this video.

I would have to agree with Kaskiles that there has to be a by-product. Do these magical oil eating demon bacteria evaporate after consuming all the nutrients?
Regardless its worth trying :)
I emailed the parent company and received this, however I have not contacted them yet to get pricing.
Stuart Chamberlain from TWC in Australia gave me your email information as you were enquiring...
LOL..I have an idea, don't buy one.
This made me laugh. Thanks
Looks pretty cool. Have you found a US distributor?
OK, no water change in going on two months. To be fair though I have had to add water periodically due to evap. Just did a nitrate test tonight and the reading is 5ppm nitrates!!!!!!
Simply...
Alex - great stuff. I usually get about twice that amount in 7 days with a waterfall type scrubber but my nitrates are hanging around 20-30ppm. I totally think I could go 14 days or even longer...
Best guess for me would be that the ATS is removing large amounts of something. Nitrate, Nitrites, Ammonia, etc.. When you remove the screen for cleaning it allows this to spike. I dont think it...
Kerry - I think you had mentioned that you cleaned every 5 days. Was that due to the amount of growth or the restriction of water flow due to clogging? You can see on the pictures that the algae...
Looks like Im growing the long and stringy stuff that Kerry had said was his experience. This is 4 days growth.32843285
I think the pipe I'm using is restricting water flow once i get a few days of growth. The areas that have the green algae are the ones that have the strongest flow of water. Areas that are dark are...
Latest Results. :)
Lights 20 on/4 off
This is 5 days worth of growth

Nope phosphates mean nothing to me :)
I have a sump but the only thing in it is a sponge to filter debris. Which reminds me I need to rinse it out. No other filtration method at all, but I am considering using some kind of particulate...
Ya basically, I was able to get it down into the 20-40 range and hold steady. Last week I tested the nitrates and they were at 30, I just tested it today without any water change and it appears to...
Well currently the ATS is the only filter on my 175g bowfront and I have noticed a reduction in nitrates which previously was around 60-80 every week before water changes. I have not done a water...
Shot another video of my algae scrubber to show what kind of algae I'm growing. Its kind of leathery and attached very well to the screen as you will see in the video. This is 6 days growth with...
One thing in all my reading on this site I have failed to find is an answer to the following;
Is the growing of algae on the screen what uses up the majority of the nutrients? For instance once 7...

Cleaned it

3066 August 13th
Cleaned it
So I'm up to 16 hours on and 8 off and I'm thinking I could go longer. Very nice growth but the algae seems to be...
Kerry - Thanks for the clarification. I wonder if using a biowheel as supplemental instead of bioballs or canister filters would be a better option?
So based off of Kerry's comments are we to assume that freshwater scrubbers have an entirely different sizing requirement? 2 full sized screens and still couldn't mitigate the nitrates?? This is...
No, sorry for the confusion I did NOT clean the screen at 7 days. This video is of 9 days growth. I have not cleaned it as I was trying to let it fill all the way in. Also, did an N check today...
Amazing how just a couple additional hours make all the difference in the world. Thanks to all of you for holding my hand through the cure up phase. Next question is now that I have such a good...
So I upped the hours to 10 1/2 hours per day and here is what it looks like after a week. I dont have as much growth on the screen but the removable false bottom had about 1/2" of growth on it and...
Actually, I never got around to breaking the light period in two. So currently I am still running 9hrs on 15hrs off daily. Also I have not covered the middle LED but if you think it would be...
Here is after cleaning and another 6 days. Middle has almost filled in and I'm hoping to see some green algae some day :)

5 days after cleaning and I think I may need to do the masking tape on the diffuser. While I do think its filling in some, I dont think its optimal. Anyways, I still have lots of slimy brown algae...
Took a picture of my screen today. The algae growth is dark and thin, no worries of it falling off. However, I did clean it and put it back. Hopefully I'll start seeing some green stuff in a few...
I shot a short video of my algae scrubber after 15 days. I'm seeing a dark algae growth around the outside of the screen. I feed about 1 - 1 1/2 cubes a day and run the lights 9hrs a day. I think...
