Is there anyway you can take a picture under lighting between 6000 and 10000k that would help identify it
Looks like dinoflagellates if they are brown.
if they are purple then its cyanobacteria i think the lighting is making them look purple
My cure for dinos was virtually plug and play when...
Water is going to trickle onto an illuminated canvas screen and the screen is a removable tray?
the flow is very turbulent the water slams the center of the screen , flattens out and expands evenly
i'll try and get a video this week
algae in the display tank is disappearing very fast,...
the bulkhead on the bottom right of the picture is closed off ( from another design). it actually drains from underneath theres about a 1 inch gap of air under the screen water runs off the sides...

ahhhh I missed that. It does appear to be taken under sunlight though
red/blue seem to be most important based on everything i have researched but its confusing when you see experiments like the...

this vid made me feel most photosynthesis response charts are exagerrated.
Phosphor led's are not the perfect bulb, elemental based are a little more efficient but here is a lot of wasted bandwith in CFL's as well and we know they work.philips rebel 4940 CFL 2700k4941
...
they use phosphors for leds aswell (its cheaper) then elemental based ones.
CFL's with no phosphors emit mostly harmful UV light
a lot of reviewers have problems with those like wrong led's, burnouts. The Philips 14.5 watt led 2700k flood would work really well. saw them for about $20 at homedepot
growth has slowed it is about 26-27X starting size
reasons:
-algae has grown past the light angle
-algae is getting taller and blocking light
-it needs more food
What was thought to be...
thats because when submerged it doesn't have a choice CO2 gas and free carbonate are virtually nonexistent and bicarb is abundant
Buy some enteromorpha sp. and throw it in if you can find it many screens end up growing this algae anyways.
Ulva sp. may even change shape to bind to the grabber material
experiment is still showing progress however i have noticed an increase in dinos but no other algae coraline is growing calcifying animals are growing on glass
-dinos are growing on exposed...
This site has some better prices for the 225 led http://www.thelashop.com/led-grow-lights/
I really need to get a scale
instead I measured it. Dimensions are 8x8x2 inches i measured the height by averageing three areas lowest, medium, and highest
It grew into a nice square
Its...
this site has some nice units http://www.accesshydroponic.com/led-grow-lights/index2.html
Probabaly could I think java moss grows on land too, Its a slow grower though. The plants in my freshwater tank take care of nutrients pretty well.
I would try something like Hornwort or another...
yea I guess .07 (christmas lights)watts per led just doesn't have the depth no matter how many there are. probably would need to be an inch or 2 away for growth but then there would be no spread.
I think I will try that PAR46 bulb i posted it says its comparable to a 40 watt cfl!
5.75 inch diameter bulb is pretty big should have a good spread
So, Ace would you say that the 168 led bulb...
its still getting bigger couldn't get 6x pics about 8x now . I havent been feeding as much and growth has slowed.

interesting note dinos are growing however only where there are...
how about this 1...
I agree on that it might be .75 watt equivalent instead of .5 led watts for these
however given the perfect spectrum for photosynthesis (hits A and B). Who knows?
I mean this is for growing...

compared to this guys i think mine might be doing better given that i don't have any where near as much light or running as many hours as this guy.

I think its doing really good actually I might be stunting it by not feeding enough. The damsel in there hasn't been poisoned by ammonia yet and i dump a lot flakes in each day (4 days now) only 2.5...

im going to raise the platform and water level about 2 more inches soon to get it closer too the light

what do you guys think of this bulb

if you know of a better bulb let me know thanks
ok its been 13 days about 3x original size
-5 days of 23 watt
-8 days of old 15 watt
no hair algae in sight except for a small amount that was growing on the cheato at the LFS.
total of one...
a little spattering noise however if it was closed under a stand It would be quite.
once the cheato gets bigger it should muffle the spraying water.
Cheato has doubled in 8 days only 8 hours on...

More than double in size.

Algae can use bicarbonate just fine as a carbon source however algae require more energy to utilize bicarb (more light wattage for the same growth) then CO2 gas.
or maybe it wasn't totally submerged? I saw that a while ago.
This brings up another question I wonder if the oxygen levels of the air in the sm100 are above normal and the co2 levels lower its...
yea I saw that picture but the cheato was mostly submerged the high lighting made it grow fast
Right now I don't have a salt tank but earliest i can get a hold of cheato would be thursday or friday I can setup a 2.5 or 5 gallon based off my second design and just dirty the water with flakes....
another design

Yes but in comparison to submerged growth when algae fixes bicarb it requires more light to grow. free CO2 gas diffuses right throught the algaes cells
I dont think shading will be a problem I've...
Concept I thought of is anyone willing to try this for a few weeks to see how fast the algae grows (I've changed to freshwater planted) should be at least almost as good as a scrubber as far as...
thats how my first scrubber grew, i floated it on top of my cpr fuge then i changed a bulb and it crashed for some reason into dinos
nice, my screen is setup kinda like yours (powerhead blows across the screen at 152 gph). However I'm using a lot less lighting, I might just increase it and see what happens.
How many inches is...
is that 7 days?

Chiton- They eat algae, bryozoans, diatoms, and bacteria
5 days of growth
interesting note, the light is angled toward the right of the screen a little and it appears to be more yellow in the middle and right side

I had the same problem one time the algae in the tank was snatching up nutrients too fast and wc alone didn't work. I had to scrub rocks then do water changes.
I also considered a sally light foot...
you can use a brush just try not to puncture the holes on the screen. I would clean rocks with a tooth brush in a bucket filled with water and do a small watechange this will speed things up and make...
