Hi, interesting concept. Just one thing I thought I would mention is the use of a Rubbermaid container. Not sure if you read the article by Eric Bourneman on Marinedepot.com about problems with...
Hi SM....ok bit confused...when the algae in whatever form grows, to lets for arguments sake say..1inch think. If as you say the 'flow stops' where does the flow go? There is no way that the water on...
Last two photos showing with and without water flow. I'm getting flow on both sides as screen is partly floating on a bed of water.
Yes funny yo should mention that RTM... Verticles taking longer, well ChrisD had a few issues with the outlet getting blocked on his. Hope you got it sorted anyway Chris?
Yes massive growth and...

I think its pretty much safe as it's roofing grade Polycarbonate which is not effected UV light. The stuff I am using is almost as hard as glass.

Hi Tabwyo
I guess if you have been reading all the information on this forum you would have read and seen my posts regarding the horizontal approach to scrubbing?
I, like Routestomarket and...
Ok as promised a current situation update. Did tests on parameters to see what they are prior to ATS kicking in.

A couple more photos showing more detail of components.
Hi Kcress, I saw on your design how you had your outlet pipe spraying onto the top of screen. I found that the 1/8th inch slot delivery system as used for a verticle scrubber did not give an even...
Lower screen is just 'laying there' at the moment. Need to get another plactic pin the attach same as upper screen. Note the plactic peg which holds upper screen in place but allows simple removal,...
I have two photo's whose file size is too big, tried to zip them but wont work on here.

I have one more photo of the screen/tray prior to installation but the file is too big...ahhh anyone no how to reduce the file...
Thanks, have added baking foil as a reflector. The opaque white acrylic reflects a great deal of light on it's own and disperses the light very evenly across the screen. More pics to follow.

Ok well have my horizontal ATS running now and have a few piccies to share. It's been running for 12 hours now and all going well. Did a few fine tweeks this morning so now 100% happy with it. I...
We have lift off! All assembled and running. My horizontal scrubber has been running for about 1 hour and 30 mins( time now 22:43 GMT) All looking good and I have fantastic turbulent flow over a full...
Thanks Kcress, it was a bit of a concern that using the red end of the spectrum bulbs 2700k which are, if not sheilded adequately gong to make algae grow in areas we might not want it to. I guess I...
Hi Kcress, I guess what I mean is algae growth that did not grow prior to the scrubber being installed. Areas which are being illuminated by stray light. Ok may sound like an obvious question but...
Have lighting unit assembled now. Using just 3 x18w CFT which is equivilent to 300w but have made provision for another two CFT if needed.... Nice reddish 2700k glow
Ok need to ask this...
Yes indeed, I think it was Thomas Edison who nearly gave up on his development of the domestic light bulb so with him in mind I'm going to endeavour in the building and development of the horizontal...
Ok when all is assembled and running I will get some nice piccies for all to see. Will get the 'Other half' to sort the uploads if i can't sort it as she's the computer boffin round here.

Thank you Kcress for your 'Positive' comments in which you have not dismissed what industry and other scrubbers have found in using the horizontal design. If verticle was greatly more efficient then...
Started my HORIZONTAL scrubber today!
I have the tray made on which the screen will sit which is 22 inches long and made from twin wall polycarbonate sheet that is used for roofs on...
Hi, fantastic results using your HORIZONTAL scrubber, good to see all that real turf algae growing happily!
Hi, have not built my ATS yet , possibly getting my postings mixed up with the photos of Routestomarket? He has built his already and is getting excellent results, no Nitrates, Phosphates, etc etc and...
Excellent photo Kcress of 'Proper' turf algae. Not the green hair stuff I see!
Thank you Kcress for your 'Positive' comments in which you have not dismissed what industry and other scrubbers have found in using the horizontal design. If verticle was greatly more efficient then...
If a pump is pushing out 'X' amount of water it does not matter if the outlet is verticle or horizontal...gravity is not going to pull more water through the pump wether horizontal or verticle...is...
Hi Chris, just had an idea if the baby bottles don't hold up. Nescafe coffee jars or Bisto gravy jars! Both are glass and have plastic screw on lids :!: I guess you will be drinking alot of coffee...
Pictures are a good size by the way, would leave them as they are.
Hi, I placed a post on here about the number of designs that don't seem to have any splashproofing/waterproofing for all those wiggly amps. The baby bottles is a fantastic idea, heat proof material...
Baby bottles? Let me guess.....to put the light bulbs in? Interesting......Yes those bulbs at Wickes are the bargain of the century...£1.94 each or 5 for 49p!!!!
I was looking for the Kelvin...
Hi, great thanks for that bit of info. I meant to ask if you had a DSB but you answered it for me. I see what you mean about two screens and the upper one being lifted clear of the flow, good point....
Hi, have been looking into making a horizontal scrubber as I think it's easier to light and less splashing.
Are you still using two sheets of plastic canvas sandwiched together?
I have a sheet...
It does seem a little expensive for a low energy bulb but theres quite a bit of work to the bulb itself. Never saw one before that was a replacement for the standard halogen security type bulb, so I...
Hi and thanks for the reply. Yep thats what I thought, between the two screens then it can get a good foothold on both screens at the same time.
Just waiting for a couple of bits of pipe to turn...
I was just doing a bit of daily maintenance on my tank this morning and noticed behind the weir comb, there is a patch of what I suspect is 'Turf Algae' growing happily. It's quite tough and wirey to...
Hi Santa Monica, thanks for the reply. I have a screen which is 13.5in x 10.5in x 2 (283.50inches) (120 gallon tank) with initial tests the one lamp gives good coverage owing to bult in reflectors,...
Hi all, this is my first posting on this site and it's been great reading all the information on designs etc. ATS is the way to go! Im in the early stages of constructing my first ATS and have done...
