Right at 3 months I will start to see HA growing on my rocks. You can try and let them go longer but keep and eye on your tank.
UPDATE: Brown slime better but still there. Have been cleaning the screen every three days so light can get to the greener algae. I did a cleaning today and YES lots of bright green growth!!! About...
I was thinking the same thing. I saw some at a fish store about an hour from me. After asking around on some of the forums I decided against it. my main reason being I only have a 55g tank. My...
Update
So I did another water change about 15g in my 55g tank. Been cleaning the brown slime off the screen every 3 days and things are looking a little better. There is less brown slime growing...
Did you post this in the right thread? Cause I not sure what your talking about.
Thanks !! That was an interesting read.
UPDATE I did a water change a several days ago. sucking out as much brown slime as possible. I does seem to be coming back though.
I am going to have to...
So I tested my water for silicates and got a reading of .25 Is this a problem? And I don't know where its coming from. I will test my RODI water tomorrow. But other than that I don't know where it...
I really like your stand
We had a storm up here while i was gone maybe the power went out? Would that cause it? All fish and coral seem fine.
Sooo, I was gone for four days and had a friend feed my tank (1 cube a day is what I told him). Don't these stories always start off like this? Well any way my tank has this brownish stringy algae...
Should be fine as long as its in the water
I am finding that 12 weeks is too long to wait to change bulbs on my SM100.
At about week 10 I am getting algae growth on some of the rocks and sand. Not much but just enough to be annoying....
So its been ten days and I cleaned it today. There were 4 or 5 spots of bright green growth areas about the size of a dime on the screens. Also there was a lot less dark growth.
What should I do...
Its not like wire. I thought turf was really tough. This is just like the green stuff, just bright red.
I have a spot of what I think is red hair algae? Its really red and fluffy. any ideas? I pulled off a chunk today and it feels like wet fur.
Yes every seven days, come hell or high water
I feed two cubes everyday... plus 1/8Tsp PhytoFeast and 1/8 Tsp CoralFrenzy every other day
I tried using Iron but I was still using...
Update, I am stil not getting bright green growth, but everthing is at 0 so its working. I have upgraded to a 1090gph (which I have had but it would almost fill the chamber thats fixed now)pump from...
I cant really help you with most of your Q's but replacing the bulbs will be a minor hassle and expense. They are only $4 each and if you buy in bulk which you will need to do if you have 3 scrubbers...
I will try to get pics up this coming week. My tank is at my office not in my house, Its a long story please don't ask
My camera is not great but i will do my best.
No I am not running carbon.
The only thing on my tank from the start was the scrubber. No sock,Floss, skimmer,or any other type of filtration. I dose Bionic 2 part and Mag.
The flatworm Exit had no effect on the algae.
Well Im just a new guy to reefing only 6 month into this hobby. My only filtration from the start has been the SM100. I have mostly lps and sps. My Acros are growing just fine. Mostly just frags but...
Well... I think i will let it run just in case there are any in there. I have only seen 6 or 8 of them but I know they can become a real problem. I will let you know what happens
I have a small flatworm problem. My Q is should I turn off my scrubber when I use the flatworm exit? and will it harm the algae?
I ve never joined their site (RC) but its sounds simple to me. They are threatened and of coarse they is always the GREED factor.
After 3 months of use I started to notice some small pachas of HA growing on the rocks. I swapped out the bulbs and It was soon gone. I would replace them every three months.
WOW !! I really want a bigger tank. That is really an impressive tank SM. I don't think i could experiment on mine, but thank you for the information.
I cleaned my screen the other day and I noticed that I am having to use my finger nail to scrub off the algae. It kind of feels like wet dog fur. Still not totally bright green but getting there....
So I did my weekly cleaning today and I had some algae in the bottom of the scrubber. So I cleaned it all out and I have coralline growing on the clear plexi glass. I scraped it off but I didn't know...
Thanks I cant believe its been 3 months already !
I really hate to ask this question but I really have looked for these damn bulbs. I thought you said 1000bulbs.com but I cant find the 2700K bulbs there.
Its for the sm100 scrubber. I even went to...
Ill start with the Alk and ca then. I did read that as well about the mag flake. I will stick with the Kent Mtech for now. Thanks guys!
I am going broke dosing Bionic. Can i drip Randys recipe with Mag safely into the sump to replace the top off water or should I drip Kalk? My water is stable but the Alk and Ca keeps dropping. It...
Is it cloudy or does it look dusty? mine looks a little dusty from all of the pods, the fish and corals love them. got any pix?
Those were old pix. My only filter is the scrubber that sits on top of the sump. I got the tank for free and it was looking really bad.
Really!? Okay Ill feed twice a day. I just added a blue spotted jawfish. He's a pig! I think Im going to start making my own food.

After 2 months almost. I have been feeding 2 cubes a day for about 2 weeks now
Stick with it ! My tank looked like you could use a weedeater in it. After almost a month I have brownish dark green growth. Not very thick but there is no HA in the DT.
Okay slower is better. Its looking green again.
So I have been dosing Bionic for Alk and Ca into the sump. I think I killed the algae on the screen because the algae turned gray and slimy. I think I should dose into the DT?

Okay here'e the photos....
I moved the scrubber above the tank. Not much luck  My bubble trap needed to be much longer, at least 2 feet. Not 1. I did adjust the flow and drain but still too many bubbles. I moved it back...
Thanks SM. I got the camera working http://picasaweb.google.com/piratefish9 ... 9887485330 After one week. Remember there was only a CUC in the tank. I just did my third cleaning today and will take...
So I'm going to move the scrubber above the tank so I can get the maximum benefit for my coral. How can I reduce the bubbles from the return into the DT?
Corals eat them as well? any I should consider? Any other type of fish that will eat them I only got a 55g and wanted something alittle more special
So I solved the micro bubble problem. Now after almost 3 weeks of running the scrubber I have what appears to be white dust or small sand like particles in the water. Are these copepods? What will...
Doesn't Baking soda raises Alk and not PH . I believe it will slightly lower it?
Second cleaning and I have a nice thin layer of green algae. I have started to feed the 2 corals and one small fish. SM100 you were right now Im getting more growth. Everything is still at 0. The...
Tomorrow will be 2 weeks and my second cleaning. Still not much growth. I added a fish today a green gumdrop goby so we'll see what happens now. I also ordered new light for the tank and they will be...
Thanks ! I just didn't want to have a flood ;)
