Aw, I was hoping to see some good results with these. Something like this (if it worked) would really take off with most sumpless freshwater systems. Which I would have to believe is a much larger...
How are these working now that the idea has been out for awhile? I have a sumpless 29 that this would be nice to have on it.
Nice, Looks very clean! The corals look a little brown though. I wonder if you would benefit from more light or more hours a day.
I'm interested in seeing pics of tanks run long term like this!
Looks good. What king of foods and how many cubes a day are you feeding? Please post pics of your corals and or your FOWLR.
What does these mean?
Man I don't know how you guys that run with just a ATS do it.
My 20g Fag tank is running with a L2 and only one Wrasse fish. I feed about 1/2 a cub a day and the one rock in it is full of algae....
No problem. It all about getting answers to the help out fellow aquarist. Keep us posted...
I would think that a good working scrubber would out compete the algae in the sump area. If not I would rather have it in the sump then in the display tank anyway.
My 180g Mixed reef( SPS dominate) is running a L4 Scrubber with a skimmer and part time carbon. I feed about 4 cubes a day in this tank. I find that if I go part time with the Skimmer. That I start...
Interesting info and so I thought it would be nice to have a thread of peoples findings of running with and without a Skimmer thread....
Lets see what peoples results are if you ran a system with and without a Skimmer. This while having a Scrubber running the whole time.
Also what else do you do or not do and get the best results....
I think we got our answer.
I would like to know this as well. I have a 29 FO that a UAS would be a perfect fit. But the HOG.5 was not working on it. Even with all the recommended mods. The new design that SM has on kickstarter...
My .02, I run my setup with the skimmer first then the output blowing in front of the scrubber pump. This is working well for me. I tried running mine part time but my tank looks better with it...
I agree that this thread should stay as it started. A thread about what happens if or you do run both a scrubber and a skimmer. But I will add a little comment that so far my SPS look better then...
Nice! Let us know if this helps.
Nice. what is your plan with this idea? Will it be something that can be adapted to a DIY system or is it just for your fixtures.
Are you feeding just from the scrubber? No meats for the Carnivores?
Looks like a Gall crab to me and yes they are bad. I lost 2 elegance corals to them.
Nice 5 days of growth!
I wonder now if there is certain combined filter methods that make the skimmer more or less stable? It would be nice to find the answers to this. As I still am finding it more stable then the same...
I'm surprised that he has such a nitrate factory in his display that it takes bio pellets and a scrubber to keep them low. As from what I read is that carbon dosing is mostly for removing nitrate. At...
Do you think that amino's should be tried if the corals look like they are getting too much at the time?
Then I would look at the placement from your lights first. I find that brown is usually to many nutrients and or to little light. Pale is the opposite. Altho some corals can turn brown with to much...
If your corals overall are pale looking then I would try slowly adding amino's. If they are darker or brown then they have more then they need already.
So yours appears to be the exception to many peoples findings. So I wonder if there is something else that you may have changed sense you ran a skimmer without a scrubber. Are you adding something...
Yes my skimmer is running unusually consistent in a scrubbed system. Not sure if it is because it is cleaning up algae at the time or not?
I would say that the skimate is medium colored. I have...
Thank you.
David your 180g looks great! Man I must have to step up the water changes. Also why do you strive for 7dkh alk and not a higher level. As many report better growth with it up a little higher.
Are you saying that you have the ATS and UAS lights on 24hours? If so that is too much.
Nice sump and really like the aqauscaping that you did.
His rock was acid bathed after a really bad cyano outbreak.
I have had the black sun coral in the past and still have a yellow in my frag tank. I agree that they are awsome corals. I have had 3 different wrasse's (trying to save the coral) learn to hit the...
Those leds don't look like they are wired right. They most likely should be wired in series not parallel like that.
Have you dipped them to see if its a pest?
Really! I'm doing the first FOWLR ATS tank? Okay I will let you know how it goes?
I'm setting up a FOWLR aquarium. I have a L4 breaking in at the time for it. What I'm wondering is will I have a build up of organic's at the surface? As I will not have corals consuming them? Will...
I'm starting up a new DT with a new clean L4 ATS yeah! I do have a mature L2 ATS screen on anther DT.What should I do to get it going and then how long before adding fish..?
Oh should I start with...
If you don't run the lights in the scrubber I think that the algae will die.
Ah Yes and Welcome
Well I'm used to watching coral reactions to changes that I make. As I just switched from running the Full Zeovit system 3 Months ago. I can tell when things are off and when I need to add aminos or...
Does anyone have a list of kits that test for Po?
I have the Hanna checker Phosphorus test kit, does this one reading Po or Pi?
Thanks
Because a good reflector will reflect most of the light on the back side of the lamp back to the front.
I think that they will say it is because our test kits test for Pi and the ATS only removes Pi, right? But why if our Po is not being "removed?" That ATS only tanks have great long turn coral...
Well I'm not smart enough to get all this math thrown out here. But there are many tanks that get by with just running a ATS. So there must be something going on that the math does not see. For...
I find that there are many studies that conclude that skimmers are not very efective at removing organics. I have found them to say that it is in the 30-35% range. So as I read it, bubbles may not be...
My .02 It would think that if the ATS it is struggling to kick in with the nutrients TOO high. A bleach/acid bath bath to most of the rocks with a large or adding up to a large WC is in order. Then...
Looks great. Cool to see a full SPS tank!
Well I started up the QT tank yesterday. I put some dried old LR rock in it with a UAS Hog.5 Boy at the 24hrs point it turned cloudy and the house stinks.
I have 2 hog.5 UAS ATS. I could not get them to work in a FO 20g or my 120g mixed reef. But I will try one in a QT and see what happens. Maybe it will work better if there is no light in the tank?
