The only downside I see is that light intensity changes dramatically from center to edges even with difuser. Unless you have space for bigger distances screen to LEDs.

You can easily remove optics from these and have better spread. Just look that LED PCB is fixed to heatsink (glued or via screws)

Being RGB ( red ,green ,blue ) its absolutely uncertain spectrum. Not worth considering.

You basicaly need only third to half wattage of those CFLs if LEDs are in right spectrum. I am using half for example.
