No bubbles, as the screen is removed from the scrubber for the picture. The whole mass is algea.
Soft and fragile, cyanobacteria? Fish will leave it alone.

Fresh water up flow scrubber.
I have one scrubber with 8.20 ph, I just leave the lights on 24x7. So it's constant. I have never had any problems.
Maybe a 2 on 2 off, cycle to balance the ph?
Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.
Were do you get your leds?
The top tank, stump. Is on full algea scrubber for all bio filtration. So far it has held nitrates, at 15 ppm, unchanged for a month., my tap water is 10ppm. Nitrates were 20 plus at the start....
The tank that had the gem lights, has no scrubber at this time. I am reconfiguring the sump.
The fluidised algea Scrubber, has completely, used all the ammonia, preventing it from becoming nitrate.
So after 2 weeks, nitrates are unchanged. I have increased the lights to 20 three...

Showing some potential, time will tell.
I did not like .5ppm ammonia either. Just needed more algea growing. Last water test Friday. Had ZERO ammonia.
With nitrates. Less than 20 ppm.

Added some more ball, a while ago.
Ammonia is holding around, .50ppm, on the API liquid test. Ph 7.5 so according charts, the ammonia vs total ammonium is safe. I had to learn about it...
They grow out a little slower, but they do well on it.
Then I might just line all 4 sides with upflow scrubber screens, add 4 bubble wands, and roll. With a 8"x18" x4 single sided cubed UFS. Then let the balls scour off algea from the screens.

So far everything, has been going well. With a few minor tweaks, mostly to keep the balls from plugging the overflow tube.

Have not done much with new sump, but the turf algea grows well under led lighting. I mow it about once a week.
The gem lights are working good, and grow a different type of algea fine...
Nitrates are down to 15 ppm no3, a week from my last 33% water change with 12ppm no3. The dark green algae is still growing. I am feeding twice as much as 6 months ago. As the, Fry have grown...
It gets close, it seems like something is missing for the algae to burn up the last bit of nitrate.
I add a 400 gph powered/ pump finally. I should have long ago. It has really improved the...
On freshwater, I have noticed 2700k CFL grow quite well.
It would be a good light to compare to the GEM 5,. Did you even try and seed a screen?
I get a lot off ugly brown slime on my...
It's a 12 bulb, 36 watt, good for a 5" green spot. As my best guess.
Might burn, but hard to tell with the camera, as bright lights, mess with the camera.

Automatic fish feeder.
The drip thru scrubber, is mostly self cleaing, grows fine green hair algae. After a while the light gets over grown and needs maintenance.

Both my tanks. The turf algae from the 6" ball, has been slowly taking root on the plastic rock work.

Algae covered ball, It seems to work. After a few days the balls jam up from thick algae.
Any algae that grows stays in the chamber and builds into a floating glob.
Ideally I...
You might try adding actual, salt grown turf algae as seed, to start it growing. I left a screen in a creek, all summer in fresh water, I now have a very different algae's growing.

Your going too need higher wattage led chips. It lacks the power to penatrate water.
Hi Paul. Nice mbuna aquarium. I like your rock work. Is the purple color from the rocks, or an algae growing on them?

It's a start.
6892 Trying to Id, Freshwater micro bugs, about the size of an aphid. This is the juvenile. The adult can fly, but they can only go a few inches at a time. Water skipping is what it appears.
They are indoor, practice golf balls, like a ping pong ball.
6890 a 50 Gph pump keeps them in turbulence.

I have been pondering the feasibility of an algae reactor. Hybrid between k1 kaldness and an up flow scrubber.
It was plugged in for 24 hour before I noticed that the scrubber lights, were not turning on, with the timer.
I put it in the oven, on 150. I was wondering if a transformer rated at 4 amps 48...
Hi.
I got the 48 volt transformer soaking wet. I have an 48 volt x 4 amp transformer. In my bone yard. Will the high amperage rating cause any problems. Thanks

Changed out tank lights. 24" led 100 watt reef light.

Changed back ground. Centered green growth under led.
Scrubbers still going strong.
