To add a bit of relevance to the dry weight status, Randy F wrote this a while ago;

Yes Floyd, gonna keep to one sided cleanings. It seems to give stronger attachment than when I was letting both sides get thick.
Waterfall screen;
190g squeezed, 20 days, 100sq inch = 0.095g/day/sq inch. That's nearly three times the average growth that this screen produces when cleaned every 7 days.
Ive also saved the...
Devs - is your tank considered to be a high nutrient tank? If not, you may need bigger holes cut in the bottom, to get some more flow through it.
So they don't consume any meat ish stuff, whatsoever ?
Are there such things as herbivores in a marine setting? At least a few % of tangs diet are the meaties that live on the algae.
It's got thicker, but not a lot of extra height;

Won't replace Kalk Ace. The ppm rates are very low compared to Kalk and all other means of supplementation. However, I've got some old sand, and old reverse osmosis pretreatment canister set and the...

This shows the screen at 16 days, you can see how effective the light blocker is;

you may also be correct about the height of the cable ties on this horizontal. If no benefit is found with the long ones, they will be getting the snip!
חרא קטן חצוף Thanks :)
this is the wrong forum to be posting your vid on that :)
If you could get them to stand up and take a fair bit of abuse from harvesting, then yes :)
I think you would only be able to do that after putting them on the screen, but didn't want to knacker them up before proving the principle. If the principle does in fact hold true, I'm sure there...
Looks like its starting on the rough side then spreading to the other side, once it's got a hold.
No, just the flat side. Left the clicky side as it was.
Day 9 and the GHA seems to be taking a hold on the cable ties;

Throw a few more lumens at it, makes a massive difference :)
were you running a skimmer by any chance?
That's great, with a new screen heh. Have you had any problems with the surge? Mine runs like clockwork. Floyd has been threatening to try this method, and perhaps lots of people after that :)
This can't be right. If you research trophic levels, by the time you go from pods to mysids to fish you would need a massive scrubber (and then one that grew appreciable amounts of micro algae and...
So your not throwing away the harvest, your feeding it to your stock ?
This link really encompasses a lot of my thoughts;

It's growing from the plastic canvas at the minute, but I see no reason why, after time, it should not use the ties as a substrate. Hence the "All Dimensional" reference. That's the plan anyway. As...

Skimming Algal Decay.
Curious as to how many folks have let the screen algae die or at least stop screen cleaning so that it drops off the screen under its own weight/flow (intentional and by...
I've asked this before, but did this coincide with the elimination of yellow water, ie organic uptake?
A fantastic series of vids. The effort envolved shows your passion. I'm a fan :)
It would be helpful to try and assess if there is a correlation between certain screen growth stages and these periodic dark skimmate, light skimmate, unpredictable stages. Ie. do they occur after...
Bonkers and genius all in one package :)
Anyone put a canister of Aragonite sand in line with there RODI system? And if so, what cal, ALK readings do you get, thanks. :)
Personally, I think algae will grow anywhere with little consideration for the material. It's just a function off settlement, flow and horizontal surface area (on initial start up anyway).it seems...
Oh yeah. That's just a reflection off my display halides, the actual algae light is a single standard 23w 2700k cfl. Got foil around it most of the time so I can run it at night now. Still not an...

3 grammes approx of frozen stuff is one "cube" for sizing purposes. The phos concentration of the water surrounding the food is negligible, compaired to the food.
