Looks to me like the surface of your scrubber compartment is not rough enough, from the pics it looks completely smooth ? If this is the case, best way is to epoxy some sort of sharp edged aggregate...
This might help :)...

Hi Floyd
Is this with or without a prismatic diffuser ?
Nice job :)
Where did you get that diffuser material from, I like the look of that ?
I'm sure the big boys on here will be along soon to correct me if I'm wrong but...
It is the algae in the dt that is consuming whatever nutrients there are and therefore keeping your params ok.
...
Firstly, your first post on this thread is Number 666 which is not a good sign, hehe just kidding :)
I would imagine that enough people have bought these and had them long enough by now to see any results !
So come on peeps...lets see them pics of your surf2's
Any updates on this, growth etc ?
Do you mean 2 cubes per day ?
Yesterday I fixed the green-grabber material in the box...
Will be trying a different way of doing this on the next one ! I have an idea :)
SM...
You mention that you paint the heatsink with flat/matt black paint, whilst this is ok for the side that has the led's attached to it and is encased in resin, what about the side which is...
OK, I thought you were using something special, so a prismatic diffuser would do ? as I already have a sheet of that i can cut down.
Hey SM
Can you elaborate more (a link maybe) on these diffractors/diffusers...tis the last thing on my shopping list :)
Are those the same things as diffusers ?
Where's he gone, we need questions answered :p
Led lenses ?? Why are you using lenses ?
Do you use a 700mA power supply ?
Do you mean a magnetic coupling inside the driver unit ?
Also referring to the light unit, if I'm understanding correctly...you make them in a sort of mold ?
Hi SM
In one of your vids you mention a magnetic coupling, can you elaborate more on this and maybe even pics ?
Also can you elaborate more on the silicone encapsulant you mention, in the vid...
Is it the green grabber stuff you use on the surf2 ?
This is what I had in mind on post 23...Nice job :)
On a side note...
The Lani led lights do look pretty slick, I designed a similar passive cooled modular rig over a year ago but never did get round to making it, but their idea of the two pcb's...
Imo it's not about whether it works, as it clearly does, but it is because they call it and sell it as a new method ! when the only thing that I can see that is new about it is the secret magic...
I think this is a good idea but, instead of thinking around a horizontal screen, I think it would be better to evolve around a vertical screen. Something like...
- Screen sits inside chamber with...
What do you feed, and how much per day ? This will determine the size of your screen. :)
I'm sure SM will help you out better than I can, but just so he has a little more info....
How long are you letting the screen go before each clean ?
How much air flow do you have ?
You mean like this...

Hi Ace
I was wondering if it could have any effect like on SM's HOGs ?

Naughty SM  !
I cut two pieces to the size I need and glue them together, this also gives rise to leaving a decent amount of growth in the deeper cavity, it also makes the screen very...
There is also this...

So the air injection could be helping to prevent the matting associated with waterfall scrubbers ?
This has happened since turning the air off ?
Would feeding a little less and not plugging the skimmer back in have more or less the same effect ?
Ran into this on a forum post...
"To be blunt, the notion that using a scrubber removes the need for water changes and that nitrate and phosphate being low prove that is just bunk, naive at best,...
Oh ! One more thing...
The magic potion mixed by merlin is an on going cost, it is NOT a one off !!
I'm glad this topic came up on here as when I started asking a few not so awkward questions on the UR forums where it is being promoted, I got warned off from making any more posts on that thread by...
The set up basically comprises of an algae bed, an oversized skimmer and a german merlin who for $$$$$ and lots of em, mixes up a special potion in a bottle which most are already using if they dose...
Try 1mm holes not a new pump :)
Very nice kotlec...your unit is not too dissimilar to the one I have made :)
Hey Floyd
Tried your little test...
Whilst what I have does indeed bathe the whole back of the screen in light, I did slide the light unit to one side so that one vertical row of leds were in...
Also don't forget...
Due to the up flow action of a UAS, with a good flow of bubbles the algae is kept suspended allowing for greatly increased light penetration, as opposed to the waterfall type...
I think I have the angle of the reflector sides just about right and the distance and angle from the leds is also about right, although I do agree it may need a little alteration here and there, the...
Which is why the side panels are angled in across the back of the screen. They should create enough light for the algae to grow. What I'm hoping for is the algae on the back if it doesn't grow as...
The reflector material behind the screen reflects 99 percent of all light with 96 percent being in the 400nm to 700nm range (blue and red) it is also angled at both sides onto the back of the screen....
Forgot to mention that it does also have a bubble bar, you can just see the air line connection in the very first pic in first post.
Oh...and the screen is made double sided by the use of very...
Thanks Garf...
A few details...
The screen inside is 4" x 6" double sided for some idea of scale :)
The base of the wet side on this is split in half and both halves slope up towards the...
A few more pics, that's a piece of acrylic between the two halves.
The fan is controlled with a temp sensor.

Can do between 1 and 2 cubes.
Will be carrying out trials over the next couple of months.
